Disney To Buy Marvel For $4 Billion « Thread Started on Aug 31, 2009, 8:46am »
LOS ANGELES — The Walt Disney Co. says it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the Disney family.
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters.
Disney said Monday that Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own.
It said the boards of Disney and Marvel have both approved the transaction, but it requires an antitrust review and the approval of Marvel shareholders.
(This is impressive. I wonder what the future holds now. And if you were a Marvel shareholder, you just made a tidy profit. At one time, you could buy Marvel shares for $1 each. If you had 1,000 shares, you just made $30,000 AND got 745 shares of Disney stock to boot. Wow.)

I don't think it's cute or funny. I think it's pathetic.

Ugh! It's like the original nightmare vision I had in my head when I heard these two companies had merged. I'm sure we'll be seeing Marvel Characters as Disney Characters soon if not already.
Financially this may be great for business. But comic wise, I only see dilution of characters. I think I prefer unmerged.

I wonder what Universal Studios is going to do since they've licensed the Marvel Characters for their theme parks.
