Hi Dave, Yes, your information was indeed useful in the fact it gave me a new avenue to explore and it worked, so thanks again. Jim had been out of the office prior to this for the lawsuit, but as it had been in New York he was always around during parts of the day, even if that occupied some of his time. He was still doing interviews and stuff even then and we did one or two, as creators, via early video phone with comic shops up and down the US. Very primitive compared to the video links on computers nowadays of course. There was a marked difference in Jim's absences though after Christmas as conventions and his seminars took him all over the country away from the office for extended periods. It was noticeable by all the office staffers and the freelancers at the time and something we just got used to after a while, but the office seemed to me to lose some of it leadership, which it needed. Two more Blogs to go and more will be explained about the fall as I saw it. Nothing really deep, just my feelings as all the Blogs have been. Glad you are still reading them. The weather you speak of sounds really bad. A student of mine sent me an email a while ago with photos of Northern Europe, which showed similar scenes to those you describe here. Speak to you again soon. Best, Tim...

Another great blog entry, Tim! As I was reading your blog and looking at the old pictures, I had the television on in the background and this commercial came up:
The actor said his name is Joe James. Same Joe James from Dark Dominion? It kind of looks like him a little from the old pics in your blog.
I thought it was a funny coincidence while I was reading your blog at the same time. ;D

Hi, Thanks for the kind words once more, glad you are enjoying the Blogs. Yes, that is indeed the one and the same Dark Dominion penciller, Joe James. I heard from Dave Hillman a few months ago that he too had seen the TV ad and that he had then heard from someone that Joe had been very ill for a while some time back, but that he seemed to be on the mend now thankfully. Joe is a great guy and was my best buddy whilst I was out there and we worked on the books together. I for one am glad he seems to be on the mend. I am going to try and make contact with him this next week and will let you guys know how he is and what he's up to when I get a chance. Serendipity is indeed a strange and yet wonderful thing to experience. Speak to you again soon. Best, Tim...

Joe visited here one time. I contacted him afterwards by email and got no reply. I thought Janet was still in touch with him. She made his web site. Haven't been there in years. www.stjamesstudios.com/Charles Yoakum's site is here: www.fridaygraphics.com/Ed Polgardy's sites have disappeared: www.edpolgardy.comwww.cinemagraphix.com/Don't really have any interest in ever hearing from Ed again. He stopped by and I thought he was incredibly rude on all levels. I had Pauline's email address, but I've had several computer crashes since then so it'd be tough to find that. Defiant1

Tim,
If you talk to Su, can you ask her what she knows about the comic "Whacked!"? That still puzzles me as to why it was made and whether Defiant was involved at all.

I saw that commercial as well, and I thought it was the same Joe James, as I remember Joe from the Defiant video. Nice to have it confirmed.

Hi Guys, As a further update to the above list from Dave: Charles has a Blog, which you can access through mine called Inked Destroyed my Brush, which I am sure has a link here in Charles' Thread The rest of the guys like Jim, Rob, JayJay, Dave, Ed, Grey, Greg, Pauline, Len, Zack and now Su are on my ever increasing list of Defiant folks on FaceBook. If anyone in the group here would like to join me on FaceBook, please feel free to do so. I also know that Grey and Greg have their own sites and Profile stuff elsewhere, Dave Hillman has a website and Alan also has a website, Zack has a great UFC photos type website, which I can sort as a link list later this week, if anyone wishes to follow their work and the links aren't on here. I am sure there are links already here for most of these guys though. Re: Joe's website. I haven't seen it updated in a while now, but that may be down to Joe's illness. I will try and find out when I next speak to him. Re: Su. I will see if she knows anything about the magazine for you Dave. Best, Tim...

Thanks again for all the comments and emails, it means a lot to me. Oh yes, as an extra special thank you to all the people that have followed this series of Blogs there is an extra something along with the Blog...although I won't say more, so as to not spoil the surprise. Tim,
I felt like I was reading antics of something I had done. The wisecracks, singing until people are annoyed, making everyone laugh.... that is a typical day for me. It sounds like you didn't work as closely with J.G. Jones. I met Louis Small Jr. At Heroes Con recently. I opted not to discuss Defiant with him as I'm sure it was just a blip in his career.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the kind words once again, it really does mean a lot to me. Great to hear you appreciated the points I was making in the latest Blog. We were all human beings first and foremost, with real feelings and it had become like a brotherhood inside of Defiant by this time, which is why I figure the guys I speak to still have the same camaraderie. We worked hard, but it was fun too! I am back in contact with Louis now, but we haven't had time to discus his take on his time at Defiant, although I do know he wants to catch up with me and would, like me, love to meet up some time soon for real. You are correct in the fact JG and I didn't have much close communication on the books. It was more a case of Jeff drew it and I painted the colours with nothing left out for me or added at the painting stage. I guess looking at them this for me is the real difference between the issues I worked on with Joe and Louis against those I worked on with Jeff. But they still had the overall look still and were great to work on. I would have liked to have seen how our collaboration may have developed, but it wasn't to be, as he had one issue with Su painting him before an issue by my best friend in comics, John Ridgway, which was also coloured by Su. Hi VS, great to hear from you too. Thanks to you too for the kind words. Yes, sadly one more Defiant Blog and it seems such a short time as elapsed since I first published the initial episode, but that was way back in May now...sheesh how time flies, when you are having fun! If I collate enough new anecdotes for another Blog, I will certainly do so and from speaking to some of the other guys in the team, that is almost certainly a strong possibility. I already have some additional material I could use from my additional memories and feel certain that the other guys will spark off more from the nine months spent in NYC between 1993-1994. Following this series will be Blogs on: My little dog Bentley's first trip to the coast with me this last Friday. The production of the digitally painted cover to the 22 page + cover, Relentless book, which I pencilled for Markosia in 2008. New Computer Colourist Yelena Zamorskaya painted the interior colours for me and did a bang up job on them too. I hope to be able to work with her again at some point. Hot Wheels issue #60 preview One entitled Lost Art, inspired by looking at a gallery on Walter Simonson's FaceBook pages. This will be followed by some more on my thoughts of the production of comics in the past as compared with nowadays, which I have still to write up and further updates on Worlds End and Hot Wheels and a whole host of others lined up as notes. So hopefully, although not quite the Defiant days Blogs, but hopefully more stuff, which I hope will amuse you. Looking forward to hearing what you think of the last part of Dark Dominion, in the meantime on Tuesday. Best Wishes, as always, Tim...

That is awesome! I can imagine how cool "Dark Dominion" would look re-printed in today's glossy comic cardstock. Or as a Remastered Hardcover collection from Dark Horse. Dark Horse Archives, are you reading this?

I thought of Tim today when a car at the gas station was painted white and purple with the hot wheels logo on the side towards the back.

Hi Guys, Yeah, I wish Defiant were still around too. Just a quick line to say the last of the pencilled pages for my Worlds End graphic novel are now complete and I am presently scanning and cleaning the pages ready for flatting. I have a new Blog with all the ins and outs of that and also a couple of news pages on the Website with all the guys now signed up to work with me on the final stretch of the book's production. Speak to you again soon. Best Wishes, Tim...

Hi Guys, Thanks once again for all the kind words and support. It really does mean such a lot to me to know you guys care enough to make comments and lend me your support. The GN is coming along nicely. The first page has arrived here flatted by Yelena and this process will really help me over the long haul. I am continuing to scan, clean the pencil art and add the borders ready for Yelena to flat. James will be editing it this next week or so, after I have given it the final once over myself and then Richard Starkings will be lettering it for me, which is fantastic. I have had some really great comments in recent days from many of my peers in the industry and this bodes well for me, I hope, with the success of the book. All in all the hard work looks to be starting to pay dividends, as more and more folks seem to like it. I look forward to hearing fro you guys again soon. Please feel free to drop by the News Pages and Blog and leave your comments. Speak to you again soon. Best, Tim...

Tim's entry on comic collecting is great and spot on as far as I'm concerned. I stopped buying and collecting comics this past year as I was down to just a few titles and I was finding myself having less and less time to read my purchases. The ones I have gotten around to just didn't seem to justify the amount of cash spent for the return entertainment wise. I actually find myself more interested in the history of the comics themselves these days.

I don't have time to read the thousands of comics I've amassed over the past decade. I classify myself as more of an archivist or a historian. Defiant1

Hi Guys, Thanks for the kind words about the Blog on Comic Collecting and the Comics creator. I am glad you enjoyed it. I thought I would give you guys first choice on some Defiant artwork, which I am going to start selling. If any of you guys wish to let me have a list of stuff you may be interested in, please let me know and I will give you prices. Please just drop me a line to my regular tim@ email address at the Wizards Keep website. I should be uploading the fully painted pages to the website in the next few weeks or so. Pages will be around the £100 - £175 / $168 - $293 price range. Purchases of four pages or more, made by you guys on here, will be shipped free of charge and you can have 10% discount too. Anyone wishing to purchase more can do so for a bulk page rate, which we can discuss, by again dropping me a line at the above email address. I can personalise any of the pages with a quick sketch on the back of the artwork if requested. If you want the pages personalising with a message, instead of just a signature, again just ask. This is the first time ever I have sold any of the pages from back then, hence announcing it to you guys here first. Best Wishes, Tim...

Hi Dave, I know what you mean, this past couple of years has been a strain for everyone, except the banks, if only everyone else could get bailed out like they have. If there is a particular piece you would like, I would certainly hold that piece back for you, if it is one, which I am selling. I am making this offer, in case you do, because of the way I have always been treated here on your forum. Best, Tim...

Keeping my promises sometimes puts me in bind causing negative cash flow at times I don't want it to occur. In my mind, asking you to hold a piece is the same thing as writing the check. It would be a huge gamble that my negative cash flow was going to remedy itself soon and I still have a backlog of priorities that my future income will be allocated to. Replenishing my savings is just the first step. I have no projected date that will occur. It may take many months. Defiant1
