I have not read it completly yet but plan on doing so here soon. The commercials cracked me up so far... I think the writer had TV credits. I always wondered if that whole project was intended to be a slap at Jim as if to say, "we can make comics without you". No one ever talked about the comic until I posted the scan. It sparked a few conversations at the comicspriceguide.com messageboard. Defiant1

Super G sent me this scan of the credits page and I was so tired I didn't notice. I was wondering why he kept referencing Su/Sue with an "e" on her name. Whacked! credits page. click to enlargeDefiant1

Was "Whacked" produced at the Defiant offices under different names with an added "River Group" logo on the cover or is it just something separate to the Shooter productions? I just ordered a copy to see how it finally reads. Never really read a copy before.

I just ordered a copy to see how it finally reads. Never really read a copy before. The only Defiant creator name in the credits is Su McTeigue. I've never found a DEFIANT creator that was able to tell me anything about it. Tension was present between the River Group & Defiant. It's evident in some of the press releases that the River Group sent out. My theory has been that the River Group just might have created it to send out a message that they can publish comics without Defiant. I think they were displeased with Defiant's performance and expected it to be a far more lucrative investment. Evidently they sued Jim Shooter after Defiant shut down. The comic was very funny. It was written by a writer with TV credits to his name. I never saw it in the comic shops and I picked up my copies on the newsstand. I( bought every copy I could find. I was told it did get distributed through comic shops, Don't know how I missed it though. Defiant1

One more month for the Defiant comic line and fans would have had "Schism" along with the other books mentioned in Previews. And those 2 issue trade collections I saw somewhere in the solicitations mentioned in one of the old threads. *grumble* I just got my "Whacked" issues now. I didn't know it had a double fold out cover. Reminds me of the caricatures from MAD Magazine. Reading the first few pages is pretty funny along with the added sound effects on there. The coloring artwork looks very Defiant-ish on here.

Su Mcteigue worked with Janet Jackson. I bought a color art page from Janet. A Charlemagne page. From notes on the page and some of the color choices, I believe it was colored by Su except for the explosion scenes. I complimented Janet on her explosions and clouds in an email. She made a comment that she had made and extra effort to learn how to do those well. So yeah, it was definitely a Defiant color style with Su doing the coloring. At the time I thought the comic was extremely funny. The story was all over the news and the names were familiar back then. I think a lot of the subtle humor might not be caught if I read it today because I've forgotten all the things that were in the news about the incident. Again though, I remember being amazed at how funny it was. I'm still not sure if it belongs on a Defiant checklist, but I feel it's an interesting enough oddity that I keep it referenced.

There has been a bump in click through traffic related to this comic. Let me emphasize again that I do not believe it is a Defiant publication at all. I list it on my checklist because it is tied to the River Group which funded Defiant. Collectors wanting to collect a Dead Universe do not need to pick this up. I think it's a great comic, but it isn't tied to Defiant or Jim Shooter at all from what I can tell.
