No, I was thinking of a white hardback that reprints a spin-off series. It looks like they are part of the same HC series.

I noticed one of those special hardcovers (the green one) sold for $27 this week on ebay. All those look cool to own one day. I'm still distracted with a couple books for the moment though....

I'm slamming my head not bidding higher on this rare comic that was on ebay a few nights ago: One of the the "first day" signed Bongo releases with certificate that was given out at the Golden Apple Comics store in '93. Has a cool Homer remark on the cover. I had a snipe in place but another bidder showed up in the last few seconds... *grrrr*grumble*

You are more into signed comics than I am. If you are going to get a comic signed, that is a cool signature to have. I still like the old "Life in Hell" cartoons he drew before the Simpsons made it. it used to be published in Atlanta's "Creative Loafing" magazine.

Reading those strips, you can tell Groening won't run out of ideas. I have one of the old Golden Apple cards (postcard size) from 1989 where it features the Bongo rabbit: Took me awhile to find that one too. ;D I like getting signed books more when they come with an original certificate. The comic up there was cool b/c it had the Groening initials in the Homer sketch where he draws "M & G" on Homer's rightside hair and ear. Dammn I should have bid higher....ugh...

$94 plus shipping? Man, you must be a big Simpsons fan to feel that you should have paid more than that!

lol...i didn't think it would go higher. 3 bidders kept raising it on each other with alot of time left. It was staying steady at $38 till they kept "out bidding" each other. The one guy with 27 feedbacks sniped my snipe by a couple few seconds.

I scored 2 more issues of the rare German Bongo variants from 2008 & 2009 that were limited to 666 and 777: And this German Avengers variant limited to 888 that features a "Simpsonized" Avengers short story by Bill Morrison: And finally found the first Bongo hardcover from 1993 with a nice dust jacket: *phew*

These Bongo comics are addicting as hell and I keep finding other cool ones.
I have a line in getting a couple more the German Variants from a friend in Deutchland! (need about 9 more variants to go).
And i'm also about to finish the lower printed runs of the obscure & shortlived "Zongo Comics" imprint. That imprint featured underground cartoons in b&w from friends of Groening who inspired his work for the Simpsons. The Zongo imprint turned out to have tiny print runs that nobody noticed or bought in the '90s. Stuff like Jimbo that had print runs down to 500. They're weird and rough looking cartoons. When I get them all i'll post pics. Picked up some pricey ones left on amazon and waiting for them to arrive.

I could never seek out a complete set of Bongo because the Batton Lash stuff is horrid. Defiant1

Defiant1 Groening said years ago that he would post all the "Life in Hell" strips on his website but his webpage is still dormant: www.mattgroening.com/I haven't seen much of the Batton Lash stuff on the current books lately...not since the second round of the Radioactive Man books.

I saw a huge drop in the writing quality after the first set of writers left. That was in the 90's. I didn't even care for the movie. I thought it was like a subpar but longer episode. The TV show has always had moments of brilliance, scattered amongst plots that aren't so great. I think it would be a really neat set to own, but I can't see there being any standout issue that gave me a lot of pride. I will always appreciate the first Radioactive Man comic the most. i died laughing when I saw "Lure Lass". I was both a throwback to the old Legion comics as well as a statement about the bad girl phase that kept comics alive in the 90's. Defiant1

Here's a real cool score I got this week. One of the Golden Apple Comics "Treehouse of Horror" signed books that comes with a certificate. This one has Matt Groening's signature with a sketch of "Bart and Bill Morrison's sig who sketched a "Scratchy" head from "Itchy & Scratchy" fame. James Robinson and Mike Allred also signed the cover who both had short stories in the comic: The "Scratchy" sketch in silver ink comes out better in this pic: I'd love to get the other Golden apple books now (4 more left). And here's what the low print Zongo/Jimbos I found look like: And 3 Fleeners from the "Zongo" line:

It seems like I have an issue of Jimbo and maybe Fleener, but I'm not sure. I don't care so much about those. Matt's signature is always a good catch.

Defiant1 Yeah I really want to get a genuine Groening sketch of a Homer & a Krusty. The earlier launch books seem to have them like the Homer on the top pic up there. I wonder what Groening has planned as an exclusive for next month's comicon. Any Jimbos from 6 & 7 are worth keeping since only 500 were made. I know a few who are hunting for any of the issues passed #2. Fleener #3 seems tougher to get too.

Scored this year's SDCC Simpsons exclusive book with a sketch and sig by Groening: These had a print run of 1000 and supposedly 200 of them were signed by Groening. ;D

Alright how bout another Bongo score... A cool buddy of mine had an in with the Bongo creators at San Diego and scored me this SDCC Bongo exclusive for only $20: With an original Groening drawn Homer sketch! Always wanted a Homer! There's Groening's signature "M" & "G" initials on the side of Homer's hair and ear: ;D And two "Funnies" posters by Sergio Aragones: With a Groo sketch: ;D

Aragones I know you like that. Defiant1 Yea, i've been a fan of his art since i was a kid. Some of these posters he has have great detailed crowd scenes I could stare at catatonically. I have a few more i've been meaning to frame one of these days. I didn't know framing was so expensive. One guy at a comic shop today told me he spends $50 sometimes on his poster and original art frames. It seems cheaper to just keep buying more posters.

In the late 80's I bought an Escher print for my dad and had it framed. I was shocked at how expensive it was. I quit my job shortly after that could've used the money. Framing is a low priority for me. My mom always had Mad magazine around when I was a kid. I always like the Dave Berg strips which is why I bought this... Defiant1

I was actually watching an interview with John Landis where he was talking about William Gaines when I saw your post. ;D
