I like buying multiples of comics if they are cool. Today I bought a couple of keys because.... well... most local stores never have any keys. Somehow one did and the price was acceptable, so I got these low grade books... Strange tales #110 (copy1) Strange Tales #110 (copy 2) Okay, so I already owned a copy in nicer shape. This is my third copy... Q

Nice books. However, if I created a character named Paste-Pot-Pete, I'd be laughed out of Phoenix.

Nice books. However, if I created a character named Paste-Pot-Pete, I'd be laughed out of Phoenix. That's why they renamed him "Trapster". He's one of the goofy villains I like. This is a book I could keep getting more of. I'm a big fan of Ditko's Dr. Strange . This being the first makes me want another copy whenever I see them . It's remarkably affordable. I paid $75 for one and $105 for the other. How many 1st appearances of the early silver Age Marvel characters can you get that cheap.... none. Q

Nice books. However, if I created a character named Paste-Pot-Pete, I'd be laughed out of Phoenix. I had a name for some some characters in my comic strip and this post just gave me an idea for their "powers". Ha! I need to get back to my demented little comic strip. Q

I'd really like to get all my Strange Tales books together. I have them scattered everywhere. It's not a big focus of my buying... but I do pick at it here and there. Here's a really beat up copy of #150 that I ended up with somehow. This is not a condition I'd ever seek but i did buy some low grade silver age for a $1 - $3 15 years ago. This could have been picked up with the Charltons I sent to Gowaltrip. Defiant1

I must have bought this about 10 years ago at a half price sale... Strange Tales # 168 I'm a big Dr. Strange fan, but I prefer the Ditko stuff. Defiant1

I saw a price written on the bag in a black marker, so my guess now is that my dad bought it at a flea market because it was old. He was always hoping to find some expensive gem for me. He always found neat stuff, but the condition was usually terrible. Defiant1

Strange Tales #177 Strange Tales #178 Strange Tales #179 Strange Tales #180 Strange Tales #181 No idea where I got the #177. The Warlock comics came from a store in Tucker GA that closed. I was able to get them pretty cheap. I don't like Starlin's Warlock stuff.... too out there. I loved his Captain Marvel & Thanos stuff though. Defiant1

I dig these Strange Tales you own. This is another series I like owning when I can. Typically they seem to have a separate feeling than a lot of other Marvels no matter what period you're dealing with. I used to own a real ratty #105 that you have their and I actually got a nice sale out of it even though it was about as ugly as a comic could be. I'd like to put together a nice run of these if I could. Starting with comics around 101-130 and then moving on from there. When I went to a show a couple of weeks ago, I would have gladly picked something like these up. I just didn't see any. That kind of adds to the appeal.

Of course #115 is the origin of Dr. Strange. To me it's just as cool as #110 which is of course his first appearance. Posted these at the CPG forum and nobody commented on #120... a real early Iceman appearance. Probably the only issue where he mentions having a crush on Jean Grey. Actually, I think all the guys in the group mentioned having the hots for Jean. I don't think Hank showed any lament over it, but the others did.

Strange Tales #135 (Copy 1) Strange Tales #135 (Copy 2) I may own more. This was a book on my radar even back in the 90's. Defiant1

saw your post on Facebook about these. I do find it annoying that in the movies, characters like Nick Fury and the Kingpin were turned into African-Americans. I understand there wasn't a lot of diversity in comics in the past, but it makes no sense to just willy nilly change a character's race. Why didn't they make Captain America black if it's no big deal?

Give them a few years and he'll be a Black South-African millionaire that ran the world's diamond trade in secret and discovered North America before Columbus. Defiant1

One of my FAVORITE marvel silver-age covers due to how funny it is. A character that can go supernova is distressed over the dew from plants. Strange Tales #113 This is the kind of silliness that I would have intentionally included in my own cartoon if I'd gotten around to it. Defiant1

But even they couldn't avoid being overly silly sometimes and this is one of those that is proof of that.

But even they couldn't avoid being overly silly sometimes and this is one of those that is proof of that. We take comics more seriously now and we don't aim them at kids. Imagine creating a superhero. You know he catches on fire. As a writer you want to pick something that counters fire. Water is the obvious choice. Now you've created a man who controls plants and you want to use him somewhere. This, to me, is just a forced way to make a new hero and new villain encounter conflict. The characters were not plotted out enough for the writer to realize this kind of limitation on the Human Torch would have made him pointless. He would have no "powers" if all it took was dew to worry him, but instead he'd just be a walking fire hazard. Defiant1

Here's a comic my dad picked up for me on one of his road trips. It may be my only copy. Defiant1
