I managed to get a "Defiant Genesis" with the "Comicfest" banner but no insert. Drat!
What's a little cool about this one is that came with a plastic comic sleeve with the "Defiant tower" logo imprinted on the lower right corner.
Anyone seen these comic sleeves before?
I'll take a pic if no one's seen before...looks kinda cool....
;D

The sleeves are neat, but it's not archival plastic. It breaks down over time and causes the book to become acidic.

I just sold one, but they don't sell too fast, so I'll have to watch for the plastic showing signs of breaking down. Are yours breaking down, Jim?

You should be able to smell it after a few years. Climates of high humidity & high temperatures can speed up the process. A combination of the two is a worst case scenario. Q

Q Perhaps Phoenix, with virtually no humidity on most days, is safer than Atlanta for these.

A combination of the two is a worst case scenario. Q Perhpas Phoenix, with virtually no humidity on most days, is safer than Atlanta for these. Atlanta is not great due to the humidty. It depends on how hot it gets indoors though. Heat is also bad. The humidty helps propigate the chemical reactions, but the heat alone is enough to cause oxidation and initiate acidification. When you smell the plastic smell inside bags, that is them breaking down & releasing gases. Q

There are 3 versions of Defiant Geneisis 1) With banner text on the cover & no card insert. 2) With banner text and include card insert-- limited to 10,000 (ha! ha!) 3) No banner text on the cover & no card insert. (this seems to be the rarest) What exactly is featured on the Defiant Genesis card insert version? Is it an uncut page of promo cards? Any special characters? I bought a Defiant Genesis issue off ebay thinking it had the insert but it didn't. agh!

I don't get excited about cards much. Corvette Jim is the one to ask... defiant1

CorvetteJim isn't the only one with Defiant stuff... I just realized I still need the Defiant Genesis without the banner...

Awesome thanks! That's a tough one to track down! Not really. There are 10,000 of the suckers. I had to convince some collectors that it was the variant. They thought the one without cards were that way because card collectors pulled them out. Q

Defiant1, did you shrink the pic for me? I tried to do it using the Photobucket editing, but it didn't work. Thanks if you did.

Defiant1 well, that's the weird thing. When I posted it at first it was super huge. I think the change I made via Photobucket must have taken some time to go through.

I think the change I made via Photobucket must have taken some time to go through. If it's really big Photobucket will resize it without asking you. I scan and size everything with Irfanview. After scanning I use the resize tool and set it by pixels. I also set everything to 300dpi in case somebody wants to print it. I was scanning as 1200dpi and downsizing to 300dpi. I think my settings are off. defiant1

(this seems to be the rarest) The Mule/Chasm tin is just a tin without cards. It was solicited & sold in stores. For a long time I thought the ones floating around were insider "samples". Later I found out they were sold through the stores. Defiant1 Very cool Thanks! haha....yea, 10,000 sounds like there's a bunch floating out there...I've seen Independent books still going strong with half those numbers. ;D Exactly. That's one of the few books that has a documented print run. You had to buy a three day pass to the convention to get that from what I've read. Q
