I won't be collecting this series, but I like JLH. I heard an interview with her years ago and she was so down to earth it was unreal. I did buy this.. Q

Actually, Byrne's art on that cover looks better than I've seen it look in recent years. The inker on the cover must be pretty good.

This art has the characteristics of everything I don't like about Byrne's work anymore. It looks rushed throughout. He uses every stock face that I don't like. Byrne draws tight, so any inker should be able to go behind him. There aren't a lot of backgrounds in this. I guess i'm not a Byrne fan anymore. defiant1

His faces have always looked the same. I haven't liked Byrne's art since he left X-Men, but this cover looks good to me. Maybe he's not overly difficult to ink, but inks still make a big difference on his art. To me at least. I guess it goes back to Terry Austin for me, who really augmented Byrne's pencils.

Maybe no one realized his faces were all the same when he did X-Men because the X-Men wore masks. The minor characters in an issue may not have had masks on, but who noticed them?

Bryne just got to where it looks like he whips up a page in no time and it still looks good, but it looks rushed. It does seem like if a talented inker came in, he could make the pictures real tight again like back in the day. I didnt actually sour on Bryne until after Fantastic Four which i feel is under-rated work for him but certainly not as tight as X-Men. But after FF, he just got loose and he just continued to do so. He went from one of my favorite artists to....hes boring.
I swear I didnt even realize this wasnt a Marvel when I 1st seen it. I didnt even look. I just assumed I was looking at an issue of X-Factor and that was Angel. I was floored when I realized it wasnt. To be honest, I kind of like it, but I can tell its short cut city and thats what I dont like about it.

I thought this was an ongoing series. That's the only reason I bought it. I thought it was nice art with veteran writers. I also learned that IDW was started by former Wildstorm employees and they'll hire just about anyone fired by DC. Gene Pool #nn Defiant1

The first two have censored scans. I never actually read this, but I intended to. I bought a #1... forgot about it. Later I bought the set already compiled by a comic shop. Lurid #1 Lurid #2 Lurid #3 Defiant1
