Here are a couple of Future Comics catalogs that they sent to retailers interested in selling their product. Notice on one it says "Not Available Through Diamond". You had to order direct. Two stores in my area went out of their way to order direct because I asked them to. After I saw how bad the stories were, I apologized to them. Not something that appeals to me. The stories were so bland. Defiant1

Saw those the other day when doing a search of Future Comics. $600 is a bit steep, IMO, but they do have the best offer option. My best offer would probably be $100 and that would be if I was in the market to buy.

I think the price is on the high end, but still obtainable for the seller. Defiant1

The cover for #2 sold at 275.00. It's not something that interests me, but I think that's a fair deal for buyer and seller. Defiant1

I like this unpublished Deathmask cover better than the two published Freemind covers this seller had:

A run of all the regular Future issues plus the Freemind ash can just sold on the Bay. It seems like it was for sale forever. It was 75.00 OBO, and had a 15.00 shipping fee from Canada.

It would only interest me if they were all NM and included the Peacekeeper ashcan. Even then, the price would not interest me. Defiant1

Bo Blayton had this to say: "One only needs to examine the monthly sales figures for the comic industry and the evidence becomes increasingly clear that most comics are not profitable. The average number of copies sold, of all 300 comics published monthly, is approximately 15,000 copies. And Diamond Distribution takes 60% off the cover price to distribute the product nationally. The cost of creating the art and editorial content of any book is around $13,000-23,000 and $6,000-7,000 to print and distribute. I’m not an economics major but it doesn’t take a Master’s Degree to figure out that these numbers don’t work. For independent publishers, this nightmare scenario keeps them hanging on by their fingernails." Defiant1 www.boblayton.com/what-is-the-future-of-comic-publishing/

Very interesting and thought-provoking. Thanks for the link. I posted it as reference to myself also. My guess has been that comics cost $20K-$30K to produce. Bob pretty much confirmed it. B&W would be cheaper of course. Based upon a comic costing $30,000 to produce, that tells me a comic is losing money if they sell less that 18,796. If they skimp on costs and produce a comic for $20,000, they are still losing money at 12,531 copies. In reality, there are overhead expenses over and above that. Looking at the Nov. 2013 sales numbers, a publisher needs to be in the top 100. They aren't even getting a healthy markup unless they are in the top 40. For Nov. 2013, Marvel had 17 books in the top 40. They published 72 books. They have about 40 comics in that break even or unhealthy level. They have about 15 books in the losing money range.
