CrossGen Collectors...
The company went bankrupt. The series' ceased publication. The rights have been bought, but there is no indication that Disney had any intent to publish comic books when they acquired the rights. Childrens books? maybe. Movies? maybe. Comics? I doubt it. The printer MIGHT even cop an attitude if they are asked to publish these again since they were owed ...what? millions of dollars! They might wipe the slate and not hold a grudge, but I've seen some companies not be so forgiving after a bankruptcy. So what am I leading up to?
It is a good time to deal with your local comic shop. Why? Because they know "new sales" spark back issue sales and back issue sales in most stores are a very small part oftheir business. They are looking at very slow or dead inventory for possibly years to come. Now is a good time to test the waters and see how much confidence they have in selling their CrossGen backstock. Up the stakes! Make an all or nothing proposition for your retailer. Give them an opportunity to clean house on all of their CrossGen overstock. Offer to buy all of their stock at $20 per filled longbox. That would be less than 10 cents an issue, plus you get that longbox that would cost you $5 new. If he says that's too low you can still afford to barter upwards. $40 would still be around 15 cents a copy. Remind him or her that the company is dead, the books are taking up space he could use for fis other backstock. Remind himthat dead inventory equals NO cash flow,
This might be your chance to fill in the common issues for cheap and spread the deal by offering up your duplicates to people here.
I think it's a good time to try.
