Since the Blue King comic series "City of Heroes" is ending at issue #12, I decided to post all the cover scans. Unfortunately the scans are scattered across two computers and only a partial gallery can be shown now. This series is supposed to move to Image Comics. That was my cue to stop buying it. indyarchive.fateback.com/Blue_King/BK_City_of_Heroes.htmlDefiant1

just to play devil's advocate, though, if you liked the way the book was done when they were self-published, don't you think you'll still like it even if it's done at Image? I currently find myself buying probably more Image books than anything else right now as they are really putting out some good work. I really like The Walking Dead, Small Gods, and of course I'm thrilled Bob Burden is back doing the Carrot. Heck, I'd read the Carrot even if Bob decided to publish it through Marvel or DC (as long as he kept control of it).

Heck, I'd read the Carrot even if Bob decided to publish it through Marvel or DC (as long as he kept control of it). Image is just a company that I want little to do with. Their name sums it up. If they created a line of ongoing superhero titles under the imprint "substance" I might buy it just for kicks. Once comics leave the small solicitations and get the full page ads, they turn into hype. The sales will increase. The creative teams will shift... I think they already have. The mix I enjoyed is just lost. Keep in mind that my moderate appreciation of the series has nothing to do with the video game. I don't play video games. I did feel the video game connection gave it some clout, but nothing in the comic has a mental connection for me to the game other than the title. As someone who settled into the indy niche, full page ads just bring the wrong kind of scrutiny in the industry and the wrong kind of attention. As soon as the comic starts selling more, some brilliant executive will want to put a Michael Turner cover on a book and make 6 variants. That is the kind of promotion I get sick of. Variants are fine. Good quality and consistency are great. I'm just tired of story arcs and musical chairs with creative talent. I want epics to build and grow. I want the small elements to grow into big elememnts on their own. I want something to ponder beyond just a word or picture on a page. Defiant1

one thing I have to agree with, all these new variant covers are becoming a real pain in the butt. I wanted to start collecting the new Red Sonja series, but it looks like they are going to have five different covers for each issue, not to mention the dealer incentive variants they are also using. I've decided in this case just to buy the cover I like the best and just worry about reading the story instead of "collecting" all of them.

They can create a good buzz or a bad buzz. Over time you don't want to alienate collectors. If you make a collector feel like their collection cannot be complete, they eventually get discouraged and quit buying the comics. How many valiant fans reached 100% only to discover an test printing of bloodshot gold didn't match the released version? I am going to eventually segregate error comics and test printings from the regular list I have. That includes the Catfish error comics, Plasm #0 standalone, Cyberrad #1 Vol2 Gold without hologram etc. Defiant1

A test run misprint is NOT a variant in any way, shape or form so I never felt I needed to own a copy of that book. Curious as how you came across the Catfish error books? I'm not sure how much Catfish comics made their way out here to the Midwest as I've only ever found two different issues at the various local shops and shows.

I'm not sure how much Catfish comics made their way out here to the Midwest as I've only ever found two different issues at the various local shops and shows. I was doing whatever I could to get backissues back then. I ordered from big customers in Florida and California as well as directly from the publisher. The error comics were thrown into an expensive replacement order after the first order got mangled in the mail. It was an apology so to speak. Order mix-ups are how I got my Phobos Proofreaders copy of "Nobody Got The Girl". It is also how I got the first Bloodshot Chromium card when it was the hottest card collectible on the market. Some of the coolest items pop up after the biggest mix-ups. Defiant1

Im seeing these books for the 1st time here and I hate to say it, but I find myself actually liking them. I like that they all dont have just plain boring heroic covers. They offer some insight, which is always big with me. They kind of remind me of the 1st time I seen Valiant....different, in a cool way. If I seen any of these cheap (which Ive never seen them anywhere period), I would pick them up.

There is a slight tint of Neal Adams in some of art. I have all the issues, but I can't locate the ones missing a scan. I think they have potential to be worth more if the game survives oover time. Q
