Status update...
Dubbed the Firearm video to DVD+RW. Some cropping will need to be done. I'm only burning 5 copies of this when I;m done. They will be distributed to Brother J, Depluto, DAC, Knightt and myself.
The production values were better than I thought they'd be. It was a tad bit overacted. I thought the bad guy did an exceptional job It's not too far off from being a Buffy the Vampire episode. It just needs an attractive female lead to keep my attention.

very cool, thanks! I'm probably more likely to watch it on a DVD even though I do still have a VCR set up on my TV, as well. It doesn't get much use, I think the only thing I've watched on it recently was the original Star Wars Trilogy.
A while ago I picked up one of the Trilogy boxed sets that was supposed to be the last time the original versions of the movies were going to be released. Since I heard Lucas intends to continue to only release his Special Edition versions, I wonder if these tapes will ever be in demand as collectibles?

You are ripped off if you get the first DVD releases because they always release them a second time with more bonus features. I've been thinking about getting that $100 box set of Matrix DVD's, but I get the feeling it will be rereleased on some anniversary with even more bonus features. Defiant1

I got stuck like that with the Blue Velvet DVD. The first release was bare bones, but I was so excited to see it finally back in print I snapped it right up. Later on they came out with the deluxe version, which I had to have, as well. A weird one was the Fight Club DVD, it came out in the super duper deluxe version first, then that version was discontinued and the only version available now is the bare bones one. Maybe that was a statement on the movie's stance on materialism... "You are not your f**king DVD extras!"

It just needs an attractive female lead to keep my attention. Defiant1 A winning formula for any movie! Or as a friend of mine noted one night when we were watching wrestling and a "Bra and Panties" match took place: "It's nice that they're using strong female characters to try and attract the women viewers." This sounds like a pretty cool deal. In return I will have to send you something cool. Now if I can just figure out what in the heck that is ...

Now can you watch the video and make any sence out of it with out reading the 0 comic? David oops, that's probably a good question. I'm assuming the movie should be watchable even without the #0 issue, but you're right, one was supposed to lead right into the other. Maybe someone can hook you up with a copy, but they're tough to come by since they only came with the tape and aren't found that often without it.

David You can have the one BrotherJ sent me after I'm through with the DVD. To answer your question, YES, They did an exceptional job of giving you backstory along with current story. They summarize that Ultras's exist. They clue you in on his motives. It's a very thorough presentation. BTW, the video has printed on it a that 30,000 copies were made. That seemed high to me. No way they sold 30,000 of those things. As a matter of fact I'd be curious of the real print runs of these books. I don't see Ultraverse books as plentiful as I see Valiant books in the cheap bins. I think that they printed enough of these to sell to collectors but not enough to flood the 10 cents bins. They were more focused on marketing - video games etc. The one book that they seemed to overprint was Prime - I read an old article where Prime was outselling Superman in the summer of 1993. I suspect that after the first 12 or so issues , the print runs tanked. It was rough trying to collect new Universes - where the impulse was to buy everything. No one tries to collect every marvel or DC - they pick a few series and go with it. But everyone was trying to buy all these books - all the new Universes. Which was fine when you have 4 or 5 lines but as they expanded, it became impossible. Killed Valiant too. Hey notice a new guy on the ebay market - Flash? I PM'd him because he was losing his mind - he would put in about 12 bids on each item to get out in front - he's trying to complete his collection too. I told him to take a deep breadth - enough books out there to go around. ;D

Defiant1 sent me a file once that had some print run info in it for the last few months of Ultraverse books. The print runs dipped real close to 10,000 for the final V2 issues of Ultraforce and Prime. I'm not sure what they were for early V1 issues, well over 100,000 I'm guessing.

This thread was moved here so it would not get archived. making a DVD is still on my to do list. I had to replace another hard drive last weekend. Thankfully it went well and data loss was never a concern.

Okay! I finally allocated some time to edit the vob files, scrap the horrid Phillips menu that my DVD burner creates and create new vob files. The process is set in motion and in about a half hour, I'll have something to review to see if i didn't screw the process up. If the software is recompressing the images, I might have screwed up the quality on the new vob files. I can't remember which software configuartion does what I want to do because I don't use it enough to remember. But anyway, for the select few waiting, this is a bit of progress squeezed into the early hours of the AM. To celebrate this progress I'm drinking a cheapo light beer that doesn't technically belong to me... but it does classify as fair game. Hopefully I'll get back to the computer and see a stunningly nice quality set of vob files to burn to disc and copy. I'mcrossing my fingers.

I know I'm stumbling on this thread a little late but this video sounds intrigueing and I don't even collect Ultraverse.
I remember vaguely reading about it in Previews (or somewhere). Was it for sale or part of a special "send-away promotion"? How long was it?

Was it for sale or part of a special "send-away promotion"? How long was it? It was for sale as part of a package with a copy of the Firearm #0 comic. It came carded like an action figure and the comic itself is actually kind of tough to find in high grade now because of the original packaging. It had a retail price of $14.95. Even though I haven't read or watched it yet, supposedly the story is split in two parts with it continuing from the comic into the video or vice versa.

Sounds like most "gimmicks" in the 90's: interesting and neat but too expensive. You'ld have to get talent from God to except most people to dish out that much money for one issue (even with a "movie" attached to it). If they really moved 30,000 though, it sounds like they made out pretty good.

I kept waiting for a blow-out sale on the item and darn if the LCS didn't put it in their window and let it fade from sun damage. I would have still bought it for a buck or two when the store closed, but I forgot to ask. Defiant1
