In honor of finding a Captain Canuck #1 for the first time, I've scanned all the Captain Canuck Comics that I could find in my collection. I do not have the most recent series and I doubt I'll ever get a 1st or second printing of issue #4. http://thor.prohosting.com/ultrav/Comely/Captain_Canuck.htmlultraverse.zymichost.com/Comely/Captain_Canuck.html (Link updated 11/27/2011) I'm hoping I have #'s 6-8 somewhere in my collection, but it's entirely possible that I don't. Very nice, I have what I thought was a complete run of the first series of Captain Canuck, didn't know anything about the multiple printings of issue #4. Sorry I again can't help you with scans as I STILL haven't purchased a scanner. I think that will be what I ask for as a birthday gift which is coming up VERY soon! P.S. If you noticed I haven't been around much lately, it was because I was on vacation, visiting family out east. It was a lot of fun, even if most of the days were spent in very hot and humid conditions.

I expected it to go more silent than it has. It has been hot. I try to stay indoors. I think Captain Canuck #4 had a first printing limited to 300 copies and a 2nd printing limited to 15 copies. I will not be looking for them. Defiant1

That's a book I always wanted to find, that 1st print of Capt. Canuck #4. Probably a little expensive for me, though.

My love life is more important to me now. I'm probably going to sell the Two-Gun Kid issue I bought to reclaim some money I've spent lately. I'd love to own this, but the price + shipping would be more than I want to spend.

Captian Canuck #9 was a book I bought in the local 7-11 as a kid. I remember not liking it too much but was willing to give it another chance, but I never seen #10. In fact, I never seen any until years later and rummaging through many stores. It always seemed rather bland and amatuerish, but for some reason, it always seemed like something I wanted to have a collection of. I dont know why. Maybe this was my 1st ever attempt at branching away from the big 2. I dont know. The only other one I have now is the Summer Special.

I'd like to have them, but one is limited to 25 copies. It's very unlikely I'll ever get that. I'm tempted by the one above, but it'd probably cost over $100 to get it to me. I like the later ones from the first series. It makes me want to complete getting as many as possible.

I sent payment for this today. This is a comic I've wanted since I first found out about it about 25 years ago or longer. I'd like to have found one cheaper, but there are only 300 in existence. It looks like the seller has about 20 for sale, but most are in the G/VG condition range. Those are cheaper, but I'd rather have Fine at least. Defiant1

wow, very cool, I'll be looking forward to seeing a scan of that one! I snuck one in on you. If you'd been interested in my treasury site updates, you'd have seen that I'd already borrowed a scan and posted it. I plan on making a better scan when I get mine. You can see what it looks like here: www.angelfire.com/comics2/treasury/Other/004a_Captain_Canuck.htmlI just found out it was 14" tall last week. I thought it was more of a magazine size. Defiant1

Defiant1 Yeah, I have to admit I've only occasionally checked out the treasury pages you have done. I think they are neat and I really want that Superman vs Ali one, but other than that, I can't see myself collecting them because of the problems with storing them. Maybe once I get my super duper comic room set up in our new house, I'll work on these as I'll have room to display a lot of stuff. I was thinking about buying one of those lower graded copies you mentioned, but that cover is awfully unappealing. It's cool that it's rare and appears to be signed, but why a plain brown outer cover?

More of an orange. Check out the original picture towards the bottom of this page..... captaincanuck.homestead.com/cover.htmlEvidently there was a limited edition #15 also. It's probably a safe bet they weren't getting rich off of it. I think they changed printer after #3. He probably didn't expect to continue the series. Defiant1

My copy of Captain Canuck #4 arrived. I like it even more than I thought I would, It's more of a tan color. I'm not sure what the other scan was if this is the one limited to 300. It must be the one limited to 15.... the 2nd printing of #4... which is 3 inches taller per Overstreet. Defiant1

could I ask you where you got the information about there being three printings of CC #4? I'm by no means an expert on the book, but I always thought the regular comic edition was the 2nd print, didn't know they squeezed another oversized printing in after the 1st. Since you don't have a scan of it, I just wanted to make sure for myself that the info is correct. Thanks!

Never mind, I did my own research by going back in this thread, which I should have done before asking the question. I found this on the Captain Canuck page you have linked on page 1 of this thread: **** 1st Edition #FOUR 1976 **** I don't have this, but my understanding is it was treasury-sized and black & white, and printed the C.C. story that would be reprinted in the regular size #4 ("Behind the Mask"); the Catman origin (also reprinted in #4); and the Chaos Corps story reprinted in #5. There were 300 hundred issues published as a first run, then an additional 17 a few months later. Presumably quite rare. Makes you wonder why they would even bother printing such a small number of the 2nd print. I would be interested in seeing a scan comparing the first and second prints of these. Really getting tempted to at least buy a 1st of this, but because of the size of the thing I think I want to wait until after my move when I can set up my "man cave/comic room" in our new house. I think after I get set up there, I'm going to start investing more in things like treasury editions, posters and prints since I'll have the room. Maybe even dabble in a statue or two.

Yeah. I could have gone into more detail, but I don't know the details. I'm trusting the various online sources I've read. I knew that both of these existed as far back as 1981, but I always assumed they were impossible to get. I knew the other version had an orange cardstock cover. I forgot there were two versions and I never knew they were oversized until the past few weeks. I posted the page for the 1st printing and then split it into two pages a few days ago. It would be nice to know if the other scan I got from online is the rare 2nd printing.
Per Phill Latter, Doug Sulipa(sp?) is actually responsible for these being printed. That is probably why he still has some. If you go to his website he lists some other obscure printings. There is supposedly a rare #15 that was never released otherwise.
Rob at Treasurycomics.com picked up one of these after I emailed him about it.
It's not cheap, but it's pretty darn obscure also... 300 copies!!?!... I thought I'd never see one.

That guy's had that book and same description up on eBay for at least 6 years, probably longer. I think he's raised his asking price by a grand from when he first had it listed.

Timing is Everything Part 4 - Defiant1's purchases for today.. It was priced $3.50. I expected to pay $1.75. I was charged $1. This is just one of the later ones that came out after I quit reading Previews. I needed it for the set I'm trying to fill. It's not urgent at all. Captain Canuck Legacy #1 Defiant1

I'm happy with just having a set of the bronze age run of Captain Canuck, I've bought one or two of these and didn't think much of them.

I'm happy with just having a set of the bronze age run of Captain Canuck, I've bought one or two of these and didn't think much of them. This one is of higher quality than any others I've seen. The bronze age issues probably evoke more sentimentality, but I think the later ones appeal to the part of me that likes oddball & obscure items. I still have a completist bug for some things. Occasionally I still search for the rare Captain Canuck #15. I belive Phil Latter has one. Q

The Capatain Canuck page has moved to: ultraverse.zymichost.com/Comely/Captain_Canuck.htmlThe old host will remain a mirror page until it is taken offline on Jan. 1, 2011. This is very incomplete and may never get updated. I know another series came out as well as a hardcover. Defiant1
