Apparently the post (Applaud..) Defiant1 referred to at VC.com is gone. I am curious what inspired Defiant1's conciliatory post. I actually like to peruse VC.com - some of the major players at VC.com also participate here. BTW - Knight is legendary in his strength and committment to the CF cause - good man. It is a strange dynamic over there. For e.g. I don't get those VCVVS's (or whatever they call them now). It's sort of like the Oscar's - where Hollywood creates an award to congratulate themselves for being so excellent. VC.com is a relatively small and (apparently) exclusive clan who create a "collectible", hype it among themselves, drive the prices up, and then some sell it on Ebay for inflated prices. (Knight, obviously, gets a free pass). It smacks of the "pump and dump" daytraders of the late 1990's. . But - to each his own, I suppose. I have noticed that some of the more caustic posters on VC.com have either calmed down or been kicked off - they don't go at each other as passionately nor meanspirited(ly) as in the past. One other observation with Valiant comics. IMO, this whole "revival" is based solely on hoarding by VC.com members. I GUARANTEE you that if the VC.com members stay away from Ebay , I can pick up a "CEAR" for a buck. There is no intrinsic value with those books - it's all perception by a small consumer base. Specifically - there can't be more than 2000 VC.com members. Why then are they driving up the price on something that has a 5000 print run? If they were smart, they would stop competing with each other. Then , of course , they would be Ultraverse collectors.

Apparently the post (Applaud..) Defiant1 referred to at VC.com is gone. I am curious what inspired Defiant1's conciliatory post. It may be deleted, but if it's there, look in the members-only section. Just about everything I make a comment about gets moved. I don't know if the purpose is to silence me or if someone is thinking I'm stupid like a horse following a carrot on a stick. I won't join back so it's irrelevant what motivates the post move (or deletion). It was Greg's post basically saying that his board was to be about comics and not the personalities that post. I don't remember everything that was in it, but I agreed with the content and what he wrote applies here. I actually like to peruse VC.com - some of the major players at VC.com also participate here. I do not like posting there because it is an agenda driven forum, not a topic driven forum. There are many conflicting agendas and they often do not relate to the fundamentals that made Valiant Comics the force it was in comics. Many of the agendas are shrouded and not aparent until weeks or months of reading a persons posts. If a dealer is posting because he has a long box of Solar #21 he wants to sell, that has nothing to do with why Valiant became popular. If a collector bought a defective Magnus #57 and want to hype it as a rare Valiant variant so he can sell it for ten times what he paid, that has nothing to do with why Valiant became hot. If a member knows an artist and want to stay on good terms so they can get a cheap commisioned piece, that has NOTHING to do with why Valiant is remembered today. If a person straight out of school really liked Valiant and now he wants to buy the properties and use the forum as a way to promote his new buisness venture, that has NOTHING to do with why Valiant became hot and is remembered today. Valiant is significant in history because it created a high quality product that grew in popularity so fast that it competed with Marvel & DC. Anything after 91-93 is milking off of the hard work started in the first few years. Going to the vf.com message board is like like going to a dog show to talk about fleas and ticks. It's like joining ebay because you like shill bidding. Some relevant discussions do come out of there, but I will not wade through the agenda driven posts just to watch them get contradicted by someone else with their own competing agenda. BTW - Knight is legendary in his strength and committment to the CF cause - good man. Knightt and I do not get along. He has departed which I find to be a mutually amenable solution. My disagreements with him are not on-topic for a comics discussion board, so I have no interest in elaborating. Fund-raising is not a topic that I created this board to discuss either. On-Topic posts relating to fund raising were always supported because CF is a wonderful cause. I do however disagree with how fund raising is being done on the boards. I believe that once a stranger is granted hospitality once, it's is rude to keep asking for more and overextending the stay. As great as CF is, there are other charities doing good that need help also. Churches are helping those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. I would much rather see people donate to their local church or donate their own personal time to helping the needy through an organization like the Red Cross. It is a strange dynamic over there. For e.g. I don't get those VCVVS's (or whatever they call them now). It's sort of like the Oscar's - where Hollywood creates an award to congratulate themselves for being so excellent. An agenda started the VcVss,and that agenda is but one agenda out of many that I am weary of wading through over there. If they were smart, they would stop competing with each other. Then , of course , they would be Ultraverse collectors. You mention a few more agendas that I have a problem with, but that still is only the tip of the iceberg. Don't get me wrong though, everyone has a reason for joining and posting. Moderation and point/counter-point discussions are to be expected and encouraged. I don't however have an interest in posting on a beef website if all the members are people who lobby the govt. exclusively for pork legislation. Too many collectors at vf.com came along AFTER Valiant was hot and promote agendas that are only relevant AFTER Valiant was doomed for failure. I deem Valiant's demise to have started with the termination of Jim Shooter. Please note that I have made no attempt to contact Jim Shooter since starting this site. As much as I respect his writing, this web site is not about him. It just happens to be about comics he released. As far as selling comics for personal reasons vs. selling comics for charity---- both are going to people and that is the only thing we can be sure about. Some people may need food on their table. One board member here is trying to sell comics to help care for his parents. It's foolish to assume that a sale to benefit the CF is selfless while an admin-free donation to directly help the elderly is not. A parent asking for money to potentially help a child does not in my mind outweigh a son trying to collect money to IMMEDIATELY help his elderly parents. Not everyone advertises their reasons for selling. Defiant1
