I have a bit of a disaster. Plumbing problems caused three ceiling tiles to dump water over my computer that stores my web content... the master files anyway. Some of my comic boxes were sitting in water about 3/4 of an inch deep. Most of the others had the tops of the boxes off but miraculously old comic bags shieled the boxes from getting wet inside. One short box of Catfish Comics may have damage now. My rarest stuff seems to have been spared...including Miracle on Broadway #1 which is double bagged. Only recent aquisitions and comics relating to my site are affected from what I can tell. Some copies of The victorian had water drops all over them. The worst hit was my computer. An empty plastic cup between the tower and monitor was full after the downpour.

d**n. That's rough. My condolences. I'm glad the bags protected the comics. What's the total damage? Did your computer survive?

sorry to hear this, my friend.
Let me know if I can help in any way, including sending you replacement copies of any damaged comics that I might have.

d**n. That's rough. My condolences. I'm glad the bags protected the comics. What's the total damage? Did your computer survive? Thankfully it was off for a change. I have everything sitting on a towel and draining. My scanner is wet inside so I'm considering it ruined. My keyboard was completely full of water but i already have a brand new spare. I wear out keyboards fast anyway. Once I got everything out of harm's way and threw a few towels down on the floor, I left. The only thing I've tossed so far is a minty fresh Free Comic Book Day Metallix issue. It had light water damage. I also threw away a sinnamon #8. It was drenched throughout because I had it open by the computer to start updating issue information. I bought a bunch of bags and boards to use as I sort through the boxes. One short box sitting in water was full of duplicate Continuity comiics. My Triumphant Comics were in another. I ~think~ they are okay. My catfish Comics higher numbers had water sprinkled all over the tops, but it was further away and everything in the box was bagged either multiples per bag or individually. My original Valiant Collection from the 90's was off the ground but in the damage zone. Papers on top of those boxes absorbed most of the water. My "Big Guy and Ruty the Boy Robot" B&W comic is probably wet on the edges. That's a $30 loss. I probably won't replace it since I have a scan. My Marvel Tryout Books were with that, so it's at risk also. Things could have been much worse. I had some silver Age in a safe area across the room. My high dollar silver were not in the room at all. Defiant1

Lost a Neal Adams Sci-Fi Channel poster. Lost a huge promo poster of Jessica Alba from the Dark Angel TV show. That hurts the most so far. Lost a copy of Vintage Magnus #2 or #4. I'm not sure which because I just tossed it. I have another. Both my Defiant Comic seminar packs got damp. One got stained on the back and the glue was loosened. I went ahead and opened it. The contents inside look fine. i guess I'll be scanning that when everything is set back up (in another room).

I'm starting to rebag one of the worst boxes hit.
I lost 4 variants to Sinnamon #6. 4 others in the same box survived. I lost an Infama #1 signed.
A sample pack from Brenner (the printer) got water damaged. I'm probably going to keep the contents for reference. The comics were all damaged when I got them, so none had a collectors value anyway. At least I don't think they did.

Wow that's some painful stuff. You've got a comic massacre there. What are the chances of that happening in the room you keep your computer and your comics?

Wow that's some painful stuff. You've got a comic massacre there. What are the chances of that happening in the room you keep your computer and your comics? 90% of my comics were not in the office. The only things at risk were recent acquisitions or comics I've been scanning for the web 9or intended to scan for the web). That includes: Valiant, Topps, Triumphant, Catfish, Broadway, Continuity duplicates (I sold some a few months ago), a few oversized comics, but not many. A stack of 70's underground comics should have been ruined but they weren't. My core Continuity collection was safe. Three magazine boxes of Treasury comics were safe. 99% of my Marvel Comics were safe. One short box of unsorted Indy comics were at risk. It had in it assorted stuff from Caliber, Now Comics, Optic Nerve (later stuff). Very little Image comics were in harms way. I own too many Image Comics anyway. I'd frown if they got destroyed, but it wouldn't break my heart. Very little of this loss truly upsets me. I think that Jessica Alba poster meant the most. If not that then variants to Sinnamon #6 made my gut sink. I still have 4 more, so I can get over it. Defiant1

Sorry to hear of your accident, David! How did it happen? Glad to hear that it wasn't a total loss!---Steve Plumbing backed up. The drain pipe leaving the house and going to the septic tank. Most of the water was from the washing machine...it's soapy, Obviously whatever water was in the pipe could be mixed with toilet water but I saw soap, not yellow, so that's my story. Regardles, everything is getting new boxes, bags and boards. I'm tossing even light water damage when I see it. The only exception I've made so far is the sample pack from Brenner. It has a catalog with their prices for printing comics in the 90's. It has some printer samples of comics with stickers indicating the paper stock. Defiant1

I have a temporary setup. The computer tower works, but the monitor doesn't. I'm viewing this with an old 15" monitor.
I was wanting a new monitor anyway. The old one was way too dark even though it was relatively new.

The scanner works after keeping it on a heating pad overnight. I set it on warm and just forgot about it for awhile. The 15" monitor is having sync problems now so the computer is still dead in the water. I did some quick troubleshooting tricks and they didn't work. I know it can work but it's not going to be good enough for me so I'm just going to wait until my next payday before buying a nice flat screen monitor. This week I'm paying my savings back for the extra money I wasted at Dragon Con.
