Since that isn't how the comic was distributed, it doesn't impress me much. I know the seller though and he was a big supporter of Valiant & Defiant. Q

Q Either the seller is mistaken or this copy was shipped in this envelope for some reason. This is a very knowledgable seller. Why put this envelope with this comic?

This issue was distributed with Hero Illustrated magazine. Lon Webb is the seller. If I see him at any upcoming shows I'll ask what the history is. My bet is that they mailed him one for some unknown reason. It could be an office copy. Maybe there is some variation with it. ;D Defiant1

The Defiant envelope alone makes it desirable to me. It would be nice to know the history behind it to see if it specifically relates to the comic in the auction somehow.

Some of the art I bought from Janet was in an oversized envelope addressed to Valiant. The date on the envelope was1989. I thought "wow, this envelope carried a noteworthy bit of history." Something that meant nothing to her actually had meaning to me.

That would be cool. I am still interested in what comments were being spread in the later days. Some of those letters from the River Group have a resentful and almost insulting tone towards the publishing branch. It'd be interesting to see if Shooter & company kept the tone of their letters more civil and respectful. I saw that David Lapham has a dislike for the gold book trend that existed. I think it was a nice bonus if the quantities are not absurdly low and they were given out as rewards or special incentives and not used like a carrot on a string. Q

Thank Jim! that was still fairly early if it was Jan of 1994...... So they planned on having it bound into the magazine and shipped it as a stand alone instead!?! It's possible that there are differences then. I didn't know anyone had received this mailing.
The letter remained quite positive. Interesting.

That's a very cool find with the letter. Very nice score!
I actually remember looking foward to buying that particular "Hero Illustrated" bagged issue with the Charlemagne #0 in it.
Way back in the day at a local comic shop when there where over 10 comic shops in my city! (now only 3 left)
I would pick a stack of "Hero Illustrated" books off the rack and inspect each bagged issue to find the best condition "Charlemagne #0" I could see through the sealed bag....haha ;D
