Hey Defiant fans!
I'm new to the boards and it's great to see a forum for Defiant Comics!
I have collected all the "Defiant Comics" titles since the very beginning and my first issue was the "Plasm" zero issue bound inside the Previews catalog with a Kelly Jones (Batman) cover on it. It's still of my prized possesions! I also collected the trading cards & binders (Plasm & Dark Dominion) and the whole set of Defiant related titles during its year of publication.
I have great memories of these stories and was depressed when the line got cancelled!
I was google-ing "Defiant Comics" in trying to find some fan websites with pics and then ran into this forum which is cool!
I'll shut up now because I see there's a ton of cool threads to catch up on...
Long live Defiant!
;D

Corvette Jim is the resident expert on all things Defiant. I created the checklist and pretty much revived collecting interest in DEFIANT back in 2003 or so. As with most themed messageboards, you can only talk so much about one topic before everyone is repeating themselves. There is indeed a lot of information stored away on the board. I'm sure someone will answer your questions as best they can if you have any. Defiant1 (a.k.a. Quato --when I'm not logged in as an admin)

Thanks Defiant1 and CorvetteJim for the welcome! And excellent work and huge thanks for gathering and sharing this info and board here! Pretty extensive stuff! I gotta say, this is one serious forum/board! Wow! So much info on here on everything related to Defiant! Why didn't I find this forum sooner??!! ;D I have alot of questions and getting some answered as I go through each thread. (trying to do the "thread searching" work as to not sound too much of a newbie... ) I just found out something I wanted to know for years....whether or not the advertised Chasm #0 comic even existed! (I actually mailed away for it back in the day...didn't see receive anything...haha) Some of my main questions I have now are who holds the rights to the Defiant Universe of characters and is there a chance of these characters being brought back? And were any of the "Glory" story one-pagers ever printed somewhere? I just read over in CBR's "Lying in the Gutters" column that Jim Shooter is now off the Legion of Superheroes monthly which stinks!

(I actually mailed away for it back in the day...didn't see receive anything...haha) Chasm #0 was never published. Writer Art Holcomb claims to still have the script, but despite having twice promised to dig it out for the fans... he has not done so. He hasn't been back in years so I don't expect to see it anytime soon. Some of my main questions I have now are who holds the rights to the Defiant Universe of characters and is there a chance of these characters being brought back? And were any of the "Glory" story one-pagers ever printed somewhere? The Defiant characters are owned/managed by Classic Media/Random House. The same people who own all the Gold Key characters like Magnus, Solar, Dr. Spector etc. The only exception is War Dancer. According to former DEFIANT comics editor Pauline Weiss, War Dancer is owned by her husband Alan Weiss who is the creator. 8 story pages of Glory were published in Overstreet Fan magazine. To see the magazine covers, make sure you have the latest version of qucktime installed, make sure it's associated to jp2 images and then look at the listing for Glory here: www.angelfire.com/comics/defiant/Defiant_Index.htmlI just read over in CBR's "Lying in the Gutters" column that Jim Shooter is now off the Legion of Superheroes monthly which stinks! DC stinks. They put a crappy artist on the series. The book was almost unreadabl because the art was so poor. Issue #41 was an improvement, but not much. I knew Shooter would not be allowed to last a year. Shooter stories take time to grow and develop. The bean counters that hire the creative staff only care about instant sales results. The book was headed for failure anyway. Defiant1

just a little helpful info for your questions. i have been told that i may have the largest Defiant collection in existence so when it comes to tangible Defiant related items I'm sure i can help. but the stories and behind the scenes knowledge then i would ask Defiant1 hes the man in hat category.

I'm gonna hit ebay for those Overstreet back issues now! I've been wondering what where in those "Glory" pages for awhile.
Have there been any attempts by Shooter or Classic Media/Gold Key to bring back the Defiant characters or release the old stories in trades?
The Defiant books had some great stories running and I loved the way each title had connections to each other. After all these years, I'm surprised these books haven't been collected yet.
"Plasm" itself was such a great concept.
The Defiant universe is gold!

That's awesome! Got any pics? It's always cool to see all the Defiant merchandise and promo stuff! ;D My collection is pretty standard with the comic runs, binders with cards, a couple promo pins and the tin card sets. I still kept the original card boxes too cuz I liked the outside artwork on them as well. ;D I did notice the thread with the Uncut Plasm cards sheet....very very impressive!

Broadway Comics was going to incorporate Michael Alexander from Dark Dominion into the Broadway Comics universe. There is a Defiant/Broadway crossover script from 1996 that never got published. According to Pauline Weiss, her husband Alan Weiss considered doing something with War Dancer, but felt there were too many obstacles trying to continue it without the rest of the Defiant Universe. The Defiant experience provides a flood of memories for all the creators. It was the best of times and the most sorrowful of times when it ended. I think it would evoke a lot of good AND bad memories for the creatoers to get back involved with them again. that's just my opinion. The characters were a group effort. Everything was laid out by committee. I think it could open a can of worms to bring it back. that's just my opinion. I'd love to see a Dark Dominion movie though. Steve Ditko... the legend... was involved. All Hollywood would have to say is "From the creator of Spiderman" and the public would perk up. Defiant1

A Defiant/Broadway crossover??? Wow, I joined this forum too late! I gotta look that up now. I was searching for Defiant vidoes and found these few interviews. I kept admiring the back artwork in the video. Especially the oversized "Schism" banner/poster thingie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeRoU5TKcGAwww.youtube.com/watch?v=kbMLqonjJmMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xa5KhbaqiUwww.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce30JkYOrOcThe Defiant experience provides a flood of memories for all the creators. (way better than "Constantine") And yes, Steve Ditko is a legend! You may have already seen the recent "Search for Steve Ditko" documentary....great stuff and highlighted his great work in comics. Awesome ending too. It would be cool to see him get a movie credit on the big screen.

The big drawback is that Steve Ditko left Defiant after working on Dark Dominion #0. He might not want to be a part of it. Regardless, he was a big inspiration for it and I don't think the concept would be as cool if not for him working there.

Wow! Good thread.
You brought up a memory about the Previews with the Plasm #0 in them. I used to have like 30 of those. They took up a lot of space, but I kept them. Then I broke up with a girlfriend and they got left with her, never to be seen again.
Good memory turned very bad....
