CBG #1029 had some ads that I had scanned on my hard drive. I'm not sure if I've ever posted these anywhere before... The cover.. Warriors of Plasm ad... page 39 Previews/Good Guys ad... Comicfest '93 ad... page 55 Quato

What a goofy ad for Comicfest. It doesn't even mention where the show is going to be...
Interesting that the ad said everyone will get a copy of BIRTH of the Defiant Universe, when instead they got the Origin of the Defiant Universe. 10,000 of the ones with cards and you had to buy a 4 day pass to get it. Any chance they actually sold 10,000 4 day passes?

Actually, the comic was Defiant Genesis, not Birth or Origin. Back then, nothing would shock me. Times were crazy. I've never seen one with cards, but I hear it is common. This book is rarely seen in Atlanta.

There's the Defiant Genesis with Comicfest banner, Defiant Genesis with Comicfest banner and the card insert, Defiant Genesis (no banner, no cards) and the Origin of the Defiant Universe, which is basically the same book as Defiant Genesis, but under a different name.

Q What regular version with cards? By "regular version", I mean a copy with the comicfest logo. The version without the comicfest logo appears to be far less common and was probably sold through a home shopping network. To my knowledge there is only one with the cards. Although it appears there were 10,000 made with cards, this was advertised as the limited version. A natural assumption that I'd make is the the non-card version with the Comicfest logo should be more abundant. The only copy I own is the Comicfest version without cards. I think I've only seen a few copies of any Defiant Genesis in the Atlanta area being sold through stores. I bought the first copy I saw and it was brought back by a retailer that had attended the show. To clear up confusion, this is how I describe the books... 1) The regular version (Comicfest logo and no cards) 2) The regular version with cards (Comicfest logo with cards) 3) The non-Comicfest logo version (no cards) Of the ones above, I have #1 only. I am missing the other two. I consider #3 to be the rarest, but it could be that Mile High Comics is sitting on cases of them. I kinda feel like MHC has whatever they could get. Although Origin of the Defiant Universe appears to be the same contents, I never even talk about it when I'm talking about the Genesis variants. As far as I'm concerned the title being different makes it a different book. A reprinting none-the-less, but to me it's still a different book. It's possible that #3 above has a version with cards, but I doubt it. I think #2 was something planned specifically to be released in conjunction with the convention. That's just my belief. As far as print runs, these numbers below were disputed by a couple of creators as being suspect. Regardless, the actual Capital City orders hint that the early print runs for Warriors of Plasm probably reached the following: Warriors Of Plasm 0 - 150,000 (Previews Edition) Note: This is the actual documented print run. 1 - 650,000 2 - 420,000 3 - 265,000 While 10,000 copies seem quite high today, the projected estimates I came up with for the early issues make it seem quite limited at the time. i would agree since 10,000 is nothing compared to 265,000 420,000 and 650,000

Mile High has the Defiant Genesis with no Comicfest logo, but who knows, you could buy one from them and they could send you the wrong one. I think I tried to buy one before and they sent me the Origin of the Defiant Universe book. Someone must have bought a bunch of them, because I seem to recall the price being low and now they want $8.00 for a copy.

I found this CBG #1105 dated Jan. 1995 features a 3-page Shooter interview too: There's talk of Defiant and the start up of Broadway Comics in there. A couple photos in there but no art pages.

I wonder if I have that one. I had a subscription for awhile in the 90's until I just got fed up with the biased slant of the magazine, the lack of pure journalism, and the clique of creators that bonded around the publication. I did order from Mile High, I made sure I put a note in with my order, describing exactly what I wanted, and on top of that, I called them and talked to the guy in charge of filling their orders and made sure he took note of which one I wanted. I received my order today and was pleasantly surprised to find I actually received the Defiant Genesis without Comicfest banner. ;D

I knew they had it. Congrats.
BTW, my days of buying on eBay are over now that they've implemented the electronic transactions only.
