on the valiant boards awhile back a person on there offered a 100% complete collection of Valiant VH1 comics scanned for computer reading on two DVD's on the DVD's were some cool valiant promo art Miracleman 1-25 and Origin 1-6. Has anyone ever considered doing that with all the defiant comics, to have a reference database backup for your already existing copies? It would be cool. The person on the valiant boards decided to stop offering the dvd's, so i will offer them instead. If you would like a 100% complete collection of valiant comics and some promo art etc.. i will sell them to you for the price of the dvd-rsand the postage, which will be $10, these are meant to be computerized back-ups for material that you already own. you can e-mail me at phishdude_8@hotmail.com

I have all of the Defiant books scanned (on CD-R or DVD-R) in plus extra content. I use these instead of pulling out my actual copies to read.
A member charged $8 for the Valiant DVD-R. I thought that this was too much as a spindle of 25 DVD-Rs cost around $15-16 bucks ($.60 cents a piece). And online you can buy a spindle of 100 DVD-Rs for $33 (shipped) ($.33 cents a piece) Here recently, I purchased a spindle of 20 DVD-Rs from Staples for $5 bucks. So... $10 bucks ? Please... Shipping is no more than $1.50 for standard rate.
OR if you have DSL or Cable internet, go to the z-cult site and DL them for FREE.
SELLING scans at a huge profit margin... well.
You cant make money that way.

By the time you put wear and tear on a hard drive and burner, you are gong to be spending a couple of hundred dollars a little sooner to replace hardware. Defiant1

Oh, ok... I stand corrected. I've got three hard drives that didn't last a year each. I mostly juggled my own audio and video files. I use the DVD+RW discs in my stand alone burner. I reauthor those on my computer with DVD Shrink (no compression needed) and remove the ugly menu altogether. DVD Shink saves the results as an ISO file that is immediately burnt to DVD+R or DVD-R using DVD Decryptor. Those two programs act as an ultimate combination to back up just abut any commercial DVD's. That is only for vdeo though, not comics. Defiant1

I just picked up one burner for Christmas and have used the existing one for going on three years now... still going strong. Actually I have Nero 6 to burn my DVDs and it is run 'through' DVD Shrink... so once the re-authoring is complete, I just insert a DVD-R and it starts right up... even through 'encryption errors'. Really sweet... I use Nero 6 so burn all my data DVDs and Clone CD to burn any game software. And not a problem... ever.

It's too much of a pain to install and it only gets me close to Nero 6 so I haven't done it yet. Defiant1

I can getcha a 'copy' of Nero 6 with a key code and everything, if you want it. It is a pretty sweet program...

I appreciate the offer, but I'll probably buy it if it bumps up a version even one more time. Nero is a cool enough program that I'd rather them get some support. For the same reason I'm not going to buy a Valiant or Defiant DVD advertised above. Defiant1

Fair enough, and part of the reason I am not offering Valiant, Defiant, Ultraverse or CrossGen on DVD as well. I have sent them to boardmember for oh um... free !!! Because what, so I can recoup my $.60 cents I paid for the DVD-R ? LOL... nope. Now I am not offering to send out a boatload of these things for free, just saying I wouldnt charge anyone I offered it to... key word, offered.

I sold a few of the Valiant DVD before all of the issues were collected and charged $4.00. I definately didnt make any money. The dvd's I used cost about a buck a piece and I only had the cases that are like the dvd movie cases which were between 20 and .40 cents (I cant remember exactly as it was awhile ago). Shipping was around $2.50. I didnt care to try and make money off of it, but was just trying to spread the issues to people who either dont have a high speed connection or didnt know how to get them off of the internet. Before I sold them I was using that foldershare program to upload directly to people, but my upload limit is about 45kbs. So doing that and trying to upload/download other stuff was a pain in the butt.
Also, this is my first post on this board. I have been here on and off for a while and finally decided to register and start posting. It 's good to see a few familiar faces from the valiant boards. Great minds think alike
Chris ;D

I know people aren't getting rich. It still sends shivers down some creator's spines to think their work is treated like public domain. I don't blame them. I prefer to have my site draw people to the works, not substitute the need for comics to exist. I've already stated I will not post the full "Miracle on Broadway Comic". I could, and others could, but I want the comic to be a little more elusive, as it wa intended to be. Eventually, it will be on a disc like the other valiant & Defiant works, but I'd rather not be the reason it got there. Defiant1

Comic scans are great... if you are out of town and don't want to lug boxes of comics around etc etc... but there is NOTHING like the feel of the pages in your hands as you flip through the book. To me it is a bit of a ritual thing and only a bare substitute to have a scan. Books are the bomb... IMHO.

To me it is a bit of a ritual thing and only a bare substitute to have a scan. Books are the bomb... IMHO. I was discussing this with an artist and a publisher and we all agreed. Having a tangible product is a hang-up our generation has, but future generation will be used to everthing being online. Holding a comic will not create the same emotions for them that it does for us. Defiant1
