The only thing I ever saw about the winners of the Good Guys contest was a multi-page "feature article" with pictures that Defiant did (it was published in Good Guys, I think) and their was another mention of it in an editorial. Are their any other articles or any more information on the winners of the Good Guys contest out there?
I've always been curious about the contest. Looking at the promo art for the series before the contest was done, almost every Good Guy that ended up coming out of the contest has a look-a-like on there with the same powers and similar physical features. Where they just looking for kids with similar features who wrote in with the right powers? Did they use anything other than the names from the contestants?

The header, the caption, the rules (lines),the Defiant website logo/link, and the "quick links" scroll down bar is all there, but the image isn't. I can try it from the computers on campus tomorrow and see if it's any different.

This is the image path... www.angelfire.com/comics/defiant/Other/ads/article_008_Hero_Illustrated_pg24.jpg_edit.jpgI have it in a folder named "ads". It's a safe bet that some ad blocking software is killing the link based on the word "ad". I will change that folder name when I get a chance. Defiant1

Where they just looking for kids with similar features who wrote in with the right powers? Did they use anything other than the names from the contestants? We did use the photos as reference for the comic, and, this was the really tough part, actually had to get almost 20 pages in various states of being done before the winners were chosen. Not easy. We actally had the intro pages with the two kids in the bedroom and on their paper route done with blank faces. It is true that Grey was actually calling the little guy "Zack" just as a nickname, before the little kid Zack was chosen as the winner of the coontest to be spellcaster. Zack being easier to say in editorial meetings, really. Zack's dad probably did the job by submitting photos of zack acting with toys to provide us with some cool photo ref, when all the other kids just had head shots. That profile shot of spellcaster;s being lit up while's opening a portal in issue #1 grey did an amazing job of pencilling from a good photo. I can still see it in my mind's eye. Once the kids were picked, however, it was a true grind to actually get the reast of the first issue done. Likenesses are tough, and on the production schedule we were on, even tougher, plus, as other artists came in to help, certain other styles started to make putting the whole second half of the issue into a cohesive style pretty tough. And the book kept growing. that was even tougher. Then they started to condense the opening stuff, so that 8 pages became 5 or 6, and started to tighten up the pacing, but the panels didn't fit. That's why you get those odd shaped grids in the first part! Charles

I had always wondered if any of the kids had ever searched the web for their name and located my page. It appears one has, but I'm pretty sure she never appeared in the comics since it isn't revealed until the last issue that she won. The link to my site is from her livejournal page. Defiant1

Defiant1 Here character never appeared but here picture did appear in the editorial about the contest along with the other winner. Their characters had something to with dreams, I can't remember the details.

Their characters had something to with dreams, I can't remember the details. I believe that she would have the power to make people fall for her as if she was the person their dreams, and then break their heart. There are a lot of women out there who have this mutant power.
