D1 - I've been going through my boxes of stuff (buried in my garage) from 93-95 - found a bunch of items (like the Bravura NEC #1 Ashcan I updated on the Malibu thread) - is there a list of all the Defiant stuff anywhere? - I found a lot of stuff (like the Defiant Logo poster etc) so I just want to see if I got anything you don't have listed. Valiant, Defiant, Malibu, and Tekno had huge marketing budgets, apparently - they gave away a lot of (stuff). I honestly have no idea what else I got (honestly). For instance, I found the original art cover to Teknophage no 1 - signed by the artist and Neil Gaiman - on the back he taped a marked up photocopy of the art with written instructions of how he wanted it colored. I have no idea where I acquired that - I used to grab everything they gave away or sold cheaply. BTW - your members seem to have a strange protocol on this site - they try defer to each other on Ebay - not like the cut-throat VC.com players ;D I don't know how that works since I assume none of us have limitless resources and time to scour Ebay. If I see something on Ebay, I put a reminder to bid, and I bid. Your members seem to have countless hours to spend researching every single auction and the ancilliary players. I have been reading all the posts over the last few weeks - great site!!!!!

If I see something on Ebay, I put a reminder to bid, and I bid. Your members seem to have countless hours to spend researching every single auction and the ancilliary players. I have been reading all the posts over the last few weeks - great site!!!!! There is no list. I add things as I get them and I don't always know what to call some items. I have a ~few~ card items listed... www.angelfire.com/comics/defiant/Cards/cards.htmlI have some other stuff here (posters, screen savers, box cutters etc.): www.angelfire.com/comics/defiant/Other/Promo/promo.htmlI also have stuff that is not posted yet. I had three computers crash in one month and all my data has played musical chairs a few times. I haven't lost anything yet, but my filing system is awry. Some things I thought were copied over were in different folders than I thought. As far as the ebay etiquette, I think the guys here have risen above dog-eat-dog of the other board. Everyone keeps a general idea of what the others are bidding on and they aren't hoarding the tough books. I think I could have had a respectable Ultraverse collection if that was what I wanted. I've even bowed out of getting some Continuity books I needed cheaply and pointed others to the auctions. Once a person gets the book they need cheap, they direct the others there. As a general rule, when they see a familiar name bid, they back off on jacking the prices up. I've seen very few or no exceptions to that if any, but no big deal in the long run. If you have a list, feel free to post it here. You might just create a standard guideline for other collectors to follow. Defiant1

Continuity gives me a headache with all those psychadelic covers - I enjoy all the others from that era - esp Valiant and Ultraverse - I had forgotten Triumphant until I started going through my stuff (what the heck were they thinking - numbering all of their books). Back to the Ebay eitquette. My observations: On the Defiant Board, your description seems basically on the money - (as a matter of fact, I had that Plasm Binder back cover yesterday on watch but I let Corvette Jim win because I read his posts - although 9 copies can most assuredly be construed as hoarding). I bought my back covers from Layton at the NEC Valiant booth back in the days. On the Malibu board the standard seems to be: 1) everyone is a cheapskate (well except for Brother J); 2) whoever sees it first wins 3) Hoarding is OK if you are a moderator - everyone else is pond scum ;D ;D ;D ;D. The comfort bubble is going to burst because the notorious VC.com guys are getting bored and noticing. Dino is currently bidding on the Holos . All the Malibu guys are also VC guys so they know what I mean. I like to read the VC site too - they are hilarious. A Broadway site is eclectic. They have what , 12 books One's worth a lot and the rest are probably all sitting in my garage. Why can't Jim Shoop get along with anyone? - mad genius , I suppose. BTW doesn't Golden Books via Western own Broadway AND Solar/Magnus etc? I believe Shoop used to work for Golden. Your Valiant site is more civil than VC.com. VC.com is populated by dealers and is akin to those pump and dump daytrading sites. Anyway - thanks for hosting this site - it's fun to observe - I have never been influenced by peer socialism so I cannot imagine I will totally endorse the norm here. I will try to stay off member's toes, but I am not sure why I should defer to someone getting their 9th "Miracle" when I have none;D

excellent post and a good summary of the way things go. When it comes to Ultraverse, I am making a conscious effort NOT to hoard any of the books, I genuinely don't want more than one of any of the books, including the super tough gold holos. If I see them at a store or show dirt cheap, I MIGHT pick them up, but not on eBay. The only thing I get out of having multiples is that it enables me to make some sweet trades, like the one Depluto and I just did! I'm always willing to trade any Ultraverse extras for other books I need, including the extra holos and U5,000's I have.
The reason we try not to bid each other up is that when we started collecting these a few months ago (depluto has been at it longer), there was only three of us here looking for them. We've added a few here now and with some of the vc.com guys getting into the bidding, I'm not necessarily going to sit on my wallet if it's something I need that I know is hard to come by.
"It's good, it's cheap, it's ours" was a great motto, but as soon as everyone else starts bidding these up to crazy amounts, it's probably time to move onto something else.

Continuity gives me a headache with all those psychadelic covers - I enjoy all the others from that era - esp Valiant and Ultraverse - I don't have problems with the colors. Sometimes I'm quite impressed. I was a little tired of the cheesy gimmicks, but not all. I wish they had made that fur cover for Valeria #2. I had forgotten Triumphant until I started going through my stuff (what the heck were they thinking - numbering all of their books). Storywise Triumphant was pretty good and was more sc-fi than superhero. Artwise, it was all over the map from horrid to pretty decent. If you think Continuity had a bad color palette, you need to open some Triumphant Comics. There are some greens and fuchsias that will make you cringe. He already owned most of what he talks about. His dilemma is the same as mine. When you compile one set, you get a gazillion items that are leftover and belong in the trash. I'm fully convinced that he's just trying to save the leftovers from a trash can by putting them with some of the tougher items. It allows the leftover cards to have dignity. I bought my back covers from Layton at the NEC Valiant booth back in the days. You bought DEFIANT items from Layton? On the Malibu board the standard seems to be: 1) everyone is a cheapskate (well except for Brother J); v Pretty much true... but they are proud of it. The good side to this is that their kids get to eat. They might only eat comics... but they can AFFORD those comics. 2) whoever sees it first wins Yeah... I thought I said that. 3) Hoarding is OK if you are a moderator - everyone else is pond scum ;D ;D ;D ;D. Yeah right! I think it's pretty much established that all you have to do to be a moderator of the Ultraverse section is say something nice about the comics. The comfort bubble is going to burst because the notorious VC.com guys are getting bored and noticing. Dino is currently bidding on the Holos . All the Malibu guys are also VC guys so they know what I mean. I like to read the VC site too - they are hilarious." Yikes. I missed something if they are funny One of my coworkers tried to be funny today. I told him I'd laugh tomorrow. I knew I'd get busy and forget so I put it on the calendar in Outlook and emailed a meeting request to him. Between 10:35AM and 10:37AM we are scheduled to meet so that I can laugh at his attempt to be funny. I think these guys are doing the licensing: www.classicmedia.tv/Broadway is some good stuff. Most fans would gladly welcome seeing Star Seed or Fatale again. So you know about Jim Shoop! I've often wondered if Shoop & Jim Shooter ever got along. Your Valiant site is more civil than VC.com. VC.com is populated by dealers and is akin to those pump and dump daytrading sites. I try not to encourage spam here. Anyway - thanks for hosting this site - it's fun to observe - I have never been influenced by peer socialism so I cannot imagine I will totally endorse the norm here. Socialism!? What am I doing wrong?!!! I thought the board was a Theonomy, I will try to stay off member's toes, but I am not sure why I should defer to someone getting their 9th "Miracle" when I have none;D If you are on someone's toes here and they don't belong to a spuse, that would make you far more intimate than the others have been. A far as Miracle goes, you'd better hope for one. I think we added up that only 7 were reported amongst fans and creators. I don't know of anyone interested in selling one. I had completely abandoned the notion of owning one prior to getting it. Earlier attempts came through so I was able to get one.

Jim the one I found came folded - most of the promos came from the factory like that . Are you looking for an unfolded one? Did they come like that because if they did, I most likely will find one. I am almost sure I have more than one - let me keep looking...
BTW - I was joking on the Plasm from Layton , of course - by that time those two would not show up at conventions on the same days. I actually bought mine from the defiant booth for the same (10 bucks?) that you could mail away for - no discounts. Defiant gave away a lot of "4 card" promo sheets - Good Guys, several for Dark Dominion and several for Plasm etc. I always snagged a handful although for some reason I only found one for Good Guys so far. It's funny that NO ONE would take that stuff - they were happy to give them away. I took most of the stuff out of pity ;D Everyone was rushing Valiant and Marvel - DC, outside of Supes Death and Knightfall could not get arrested.
