I used to like the Ripley's Believe it or Not Comics. If I get them in a collection, I always keep them. I don't go out of my way to locate them. Ripley's Believe it or Not #61 Ripley's Believe it or Not #87 Q

Gold Key covers and some books are under rated. I never go looking for them either but find myself picking them up from time to time and now i have a decent amount of them. Once I get them, I usually am glad I own it.

Twilight Zone #28 This thread is for anything besides the ones picked up by Valiant & Dark Horse. As stated before, the painted covers are always nice, but the art & story inside is pretty simple in most Gold key comics. Defiant1

I bought this for the hell of it last week. It was cheaper than a new comic and "Ripley's Believe it or Not" was one of the few Gold Key titles that I appreciated. Defiant1

That is a great purchase. Look for the Gold Key/Western Hero books and pretty much all of these type of comics/digests to start increasing in value once the Dark Horse/Shooter relaunch begins. There are some hidden gems in those digests that could play a big role in the modern Gold Key mythology down the line.

I started a new thread to post my Gold Key scans. The Dark Horse connection seems to be gone. Classic Media Licensing should be owned by a new company. I can't even remember who, which says something about how little I care anymore. I started buying Dr. Spektor when I heard rumors that Valiant may pick up another Gold Key licensed character in 1992. The company opted to create Dr. Mirage instead which royally sucked. At the time however, Dr. Spektor seemed like the prime candidate for valiant to publish. My interest and knowledge of the character goes back to 1992. I only knew the title before that. Here is the character's spin-off tile. Spine-Tingling Tales #1 Spine-Tingling Tales #3

Dark Horse pretty mush stopped soliciting any future reprints of the Gold Key characters like they used to on the site. Maybe "Dreamworks" will do a publishing line? I noticed Raymond Swanland who was doing the Shooter books is now doing covers for the next CGW relaunch characters now like "X". Not really interested in getting those though. Dark Horse hasn't said anything about the the StarWars comic line either or whether they are losing the rights to Disney since the buyout. I was curious what's gonna happen to those. On the old GoldKey books, I have it on my comic bucket list to find a nice copy of the 1968 "Yellow Submarine" book one of these days. Always wanted one.

Dark Horse said they still had the rights and publishing plans are intact. They did not know if Disney was going to renew the license. I think it's a safe bet that they aren't. I think it's a safe bet that Disney is aiming to eliminate Dark Horse as the #3 publisher. I think Dark Horse's days are numbered as a publisher. I'm not really a Beatles fan. I preferred The Who. If I was a Beatles fan, I'd have bought up back issues of Beetle's Fan magazine. I used to see it quite often and it's not got widespread distribution. Defiant1

I think Disney is going to take the comic license back from Dark Horse too. That's gonna be a big blow to DarkHorse for sure. Lucas has been using alot of ideas from the old comics for the movies but that's probably not going to matter now that Disney owns Lucasfilm now. I've mainly just been buying the StarWars line, bongo and Image these days and no DC/Marvel . It would suck seeing it printed under the "New Marvel" management but it was fun while it lasted at Dark Horse. Or maybe the comics division doesn't generate alot of money and Disney will leave them alone. Or probably not and they just want to eat up the whole thing with the StarWars name just for the sake of it. That old GK Beatles comic looks trippy and would match awesome with my cartoony Bongo stash.

Marvel has already delivered one severe blow to Dark Horse by retaining Joss Whedon for an extended contract. Pulling Star Wars would be a second attack. That can potentially wipe out their best selling properties and leave them with unprofitable titles. If they are reviving the CGW stuff, it's out of desperation. In all honesty, I think it was stupid to rely on licensed properties anyway. The model has failed in the long term for every publisher that took that route. Defiant1

I forgot about Josh Whedon and the Avengers. Take away Buffy and StarWars and all that's left is Hellboy and one Conan title as their big sellers. All the other stuff is struggling in the 5000-9000 range.

All the other stuff is struggling in the 5000-9000 range. Yes, and it has always been my belief that the top 25% is the only thing sustaining the bottom 75% of the output. That is another reason I was dumbfounded by the ineptitude in which they handled Shooter's employment. Even though the sales were low, he was one of the few people capable of building a foundation for their future success. Defiant1

Most of these Gold key comics being posted next are reader copies that I bought AFTER my Valiant pre-Unity was complete and I was looking for background on characters that were being published or rumored to be published. I don't care for the quality of most Gold Key superhero titles, so I was buying simply what was available as reader copies. Keep in mind, that what i bought was usually all the stores in town even had for sale. I'm not cropping these to the edge because I may sell them and i want all the damage to show. As mentioned above, these were bought as reading/research copies only. The #9 has a split cover at the spine. Normally, I won't but a comic in that poor of a condition.
