Hmmm....no post around here by anyone in the last 3 days.
Well, I read about this elsewhere. One thing that always gets me about Layton is when I read his comments, he always seems kind of smug to me.
Now, I think he's a pretty good inker and a so-so artist. But sometimes I feel he's a bit over-rated. I do think his inks on Iron Man with JR JR was fabulous. But, I havent been that blown away by his work since.
There, that should get somebody to post. Even if it is to just slam me.
Dont get me wrong. I like Layton. I just feel he's a bit over-rated sometimes and appears to see himself way too highly.

You are a tad bit more harsh than I'd be, but I agree with 96% of what you said. I think Layton is at the top of his field as an inker and he's a work horse to boot. There are a lot of talented people that can't pump out the work. He succeeds. I have no interest in seeing him run a comic book company or be a co-creator unless some deeper concepts are introduced by the other creators. I think his ideas are cliche and/or overused. I'm not a fan of Micheline's(sp?) writing. I don't get excited at hearing his name on a project. I know if he's involved, his ideas have already saturated it and watered down anything I'd like to see. I prefer to see his work as a hired hand inking, not for conceptual ideas. Q

I like Layton's work, I think some of the IM covers that were just credited to him were very nice. I thought some of the IM stories he worked on were pretty good, how much of that should be credited to him and how much to Micheline I'm not sure.
