Plasm #0 Card Binder I've stated this before, but I feel the biggest problem with this card binder is that there was no set configuration about what it was to include. The one scanned above Is filled with the Plasm #0 story cards. i chose to upgrade the character cards and include all foil versions. I have about 5 of the chase cards. I was basically fed up with the way this was handled, so I made no attempt to go after the Dark Dominion chase cards. In the box I'm going through, I have a second binder filled with story cards and regular character cards. I didn't put any chase cards in it. I have another unopened one. I think it's a safe bet that I have more. The one scanned above smells brand new. Defiant1

I was looking forward to it greatly. My love for comics back then was in peak form. I think one thing that damaged this, which was supposed to be, if I remember correctly, the 1st item Defiant put out (feel free to correct me if I am wrong about that), but I think the Previews with the built in comic of this same book hurt this binder and it may have been a coo for Defiant to do that because the binder was kind of expensive if I remember correctly (I want to say $30, again correct me if I'm wrong) so the Previews was cheaper and appealed to a wider audience. But I always thought the Previews with the built in comic of this SAME book would have had more impact AFTER this came out. I just kind of remember being disappointed because I bought into the preorder hype only to see it diluted by something I didn't see coming.

I just kind of remember being disappointed because I bought into the preorder hype only to see it diluted by something I didn't see coming. I believe the Previews issue with Plasm #0 was the highest print run issue of Previews ever produced. The comic didn't hurt the binder at all. The binders were underproduced. I preordered ten of them, but because of rationing, I was only able to get three. The store wasn't shorting me because I was friends with the owners and I knew he had customers that weren't even able to get a copy. The binder sold out quickly. This upset a lot of fans because they were forced to settle for a second printing of the binder. On top of that, some chase cards were simply too difficult to get. I think Level II chase cards were one per case. If you collected all the regular cards and the Level I chase cards, I think you still had three slots unfilled. There are supposed to be 4 level 2 cards. WTF were you supposed to put in the three slots. Lets say you decided to take the Plasm cards from Overstreet's free giveaway... that won't work because there were about 9 color variations. Then they came out with foil variants of the character cards. You got one card with the Tin. They had no f**k**g clue what the binder was supposed to look like. There was no mix and match way to complete the binder that made any sense. Defiant1

Defiant1 I'm just saying the Previews with the built in Plasm #0 seemed to take some of the steam off of the Plasm #0 binder because the way I remember it being hyped at preorder time was this was the ONLY way you could have it. Was the binder. And everyone else had to wait for issue #1. And then the Previews hit BEFORE the Plasm binder and it just seemed to make the binder less desirable from my memory of it. I mean I still dug it and stuff. But it sort of knocked some of the luster off of it. Everyone who wanted a Plasm #0 had it in one form or the other. I was let down by the Previews book. But I remember I had about 20 of them. Charlotte Con was giving them away that year at a booth and me and my friends kept going back and getting more. Unfortunately, when I left a girlfriend I was living with some years later, I left all of them at the girls house I was living with. So NOW the binder means more to me now then it did then. I have 3 of them.

Maybe it came out in response the the River Group underproducing the binder. Either way, there was a lot of bickering back and forth between the card company and the comics company. It all started because there were not enough of the first edition binders. Technically, the very first thing Defiant solicited was the Mongrel print. Defiant1

Defiant1 If I remember correctly, and I may be wrong, it's been 20 years now, but I believe the Previews came out the same month as the binder but actually arrived in stores, I want to say like 2 weeks before the binders arrived. Not only did it take some of the surprise off the binder, but I also believe it took some of the speculative value out of it as well. I still thought it was a great thing to own. I don't know about the Mongrel print. I wasn't that deep into side collectibles. I do know before the binder or the Previews came out, the comic store I went to at the time had a thick gloss cardstock promo card come out and sitting on the cashiers table promoting Plasm before either the Previews or the binder had arrived. It had a way different logo than the actual series. I grabbed it. I still have it somewhere. I think I put it in one of my binders. I kind of cherish that as much if not more than the binder itself. The guy that comes on here and posts pictures of his deep Defiant collection posted it on here before. That guy has an extremely impressive Defiant collection. I never realized how many collectibles they made until I seen his stuff.

I was one of the ones who ended up with a second print. I never realized they were underproduced. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a first edition. I always come across second prints at conventions.
I never picked up the Dark Dominion binder tho I really should as I'm a fan of Ditko's work.

I'd like to see it be made into a movie some day. Defiant1
