Well... here goes nothing ;D . If anyone out there has the original artwork from the Good Guys 1.5 issue that ran in Previews, from the first part of the story with the final panel on it (Icarus cornered in the alley with his wings showing), I'd like to buy it. I'm also interested in any of the other parts of that story, and will buy them, too. Thanks.

I never have either. I wonder if Latham's art is just more difficult to find because of his continued success.

I've heard he quit selling it. That's really unfortunate considering how good his artwork is. It would be cool to see some of his original stuff. I haven't really payed much attention to his Stray Bullets work, but I do like the covers I've seen.

A local guy had bought it, but I'm not sure exactly how he acquired it. I saw it around the time Lapham quit Valiant and it was before anyone had ever mentioned Defiant. This page isn't visited too frequently... valiant.port5.com/Creator_projects/Stray_Bullets/El_Capitan_Stray_Bullets.htmlIt is a scan of all the Lapham covers I had located and done prior to my computer crash. I don't know about now, but back in the day, David never wanted to sell any of his art. He even bought some of my colored pieces that were over his work. JayJay www.seriousillustration.com

JayJay www.seriousillustration.comWhat were the guidelines for returning the art? Did the inker get a share? How was it decided? Did the guidelines change at Broadway vs. Defiant vs. Valiant? From what I know Lapham almost never ever sells his art. He did buy some colours from Janet Jackson I think to covers he did. Very few pieces of his art have ever surfaced. Interiors from Harbinger 1-6 are virtually impossible to find. I know a collector has the cover to #5. I have a page from Harbinger #7 (its a boring page but the only one I have ever seen). Rai #0 pages are around but only half a dozen or so pages and they are very expensive (Sonicdan has some). I have never seen any of his work on Magnus. HARD Corps #1 pages are few and far between as well but I have seen a some. I think the only pages of his that are out there are the ones he split with an inker who then sold them on.

Although my art buying is on hold, it woud be nice to find out which inkers had been selling his work and try acquiring it from that angle. If he's been buying his own color art back, then I must have some pieces he passed on getting. If Janet happens to stumble across this, what happened to the Stray Bullets covers? Did David buy those from you also?

Well, after three to four years of collecting, I've amassed quite a few Defiant original art pieces. I've decided to go ahead and inventory my color art pieces. These are all watercolor paintings done over a 1st generation copy of the inked art. They are painted by Defiant colorist Janet Jackson. They are not color guides. Quite regularly collectors ask "what size are these?" I've included the approximate size (±.25") to give people an idea. Birth of the Defiant UniverseCover (10.25 x 14.75) Charlemagne#2 Cover (9" x 13.75") #2 Page 11 (8.5" x 14") Dogs of War#1 Cover (10" x 14.25") Dark Dominion#5 Cover (10.25" x 15.25") Good Guys#1 Cover (8.5" x 14") #1.5 page 7 (9" x 13") #2 Cover (9" x 14") #3 Cover (8.5" x 12.75") #4 Cover (9.75" x 15") #5 Cover (9" x 14") Schism#4 Page 20 War Dancer#1 Cover (11" x 14.5") #1 Page 6 (8.75 x 14.25) #2 Cover (10.25" x 14.5") #5 Cover (8.5" x 12") Warriors of Plasm#0 Page 1 Splash (10.5 x 13.75") #9 Cover (9.75" x 14") #10 Cover (8.75" x 14") Promotional Color Art Prudence & Caution Full page Pinup (Jim Fern/Mike Witherby Image (10" x 13.75") War Dancer kicking- Alan Weiss image (11.25" x 15.25") Lorca Standing - Neal Adams image (10.5" a 15.5") Defiant1

very nice! I remember when Janet was selling quite a bit of the VALIANT and Defiant color art, I never won a piece but it was interesting to see all the stuff she had.

very nice! I remember when Janet was selling quite a bit of the VALIANT and Defiant color art, I never won a piece but it was interesting to see all the stuff she had. I tried to offer her 30%-50% more than I thought she'd get from anyone else at the time. I truly appreciate Janet's work and I know their isn't a big market for Defiant art. If I was going to spend that kind of money, I really only wanted covers. Buying every page would not be fulfilling and it would drain the bank account quickly. Some of these were bought by my friend and then I bought them from him. he's cheaper than me, so I wouldn't blink to let him make a profit. The Plasm #0 splash had special meaning to me because that comic came out just a few years after the girl I loved died. The story title is "the death of love". For me, the story was particularly heart wrenching because Lorca's love died in the story. I had a lot of empathy for the story even though it was really out there. Defiant1

Here are a couple of larger scans.... I had to defend these at comicspriceguide.com Michael browning was calling these color guides to see how far he could push me. He later apologized. Defiant1
