Very nice to see you here Corvette! Thanks for the reply. There is so much stuff buried deep in here that happened well before I got here. I havent read the beginning of this thread, only the last few posts at the end. But even then I can tell it was an interesting disc. I'll have to see what other things are buried deep in this board. I may have an extra copy from the original batch. If so, it's yours. Defiant1

SWEET!!! ;D Um, since comics are out of the question, what can I send you in return? These were free to everyone. I will not take any compensation. This was a tribute site, not an attempt to sell or profit The only catch is that the cover is printed slightly crooked. I only had a few left. I have it boxed already to send. I just need to dig up your address. I should have it buried somewhere. Defiant1

Thanks a lot Q!
I received the movie Thursday night (the box was open however). I watched it completely last night. It was very interesting to see how gung ho they were about this company.
I dont think I have ever really read Defiant comics except some Plasm issues. This made me want to read some of them. They appear to be making a Universe and Shooter kept talking about "This is the moment that ties our universe together".
Im not well versed on Defiant, but it makes you wonder what happened?
The video looked like it was shot on an old VHS-C Camcorder and its now quite painful to watch movies like that today. Its amazing to see how far we have come in such a short amount of time. By painful, I only mean the video quality and not the movie itself. The movie was quite enjoyable, but the video showed its age. But, for a small budget stuff that looked like one of us did it. I thought it was very well done.
Furthermore, this is the 1st time I ever seen Shooter on video. I have only seen him in the past in pictures. He seemed pretty cool. But I got an overwhelming feeling of "nerds" from the overall group. I seriously hope Shooter has cut the god awful pony tail.
And finally, I couldnt help but wonder how you became involved with this Q? How did you end up with these? Is there a story there? Were you involved in this? It has to make me wonder how it all came to be and why you distributed to some lucky people like myself? I will consider it as part of my collection.
I certainly thank you for sending it to me. It was enlightening and it made me want to check out my defiant comics even more.
Thanks again!

G,
I spent about a year or two aggressively tracking down obscure and/or unpublished DEFIANT material so that fans could get "the rest of the story". I felt that since it was all over and dead, fans should at least deserve enough respect to know what was happening to the characters on the creative side when it ended. The VHS convention tape was just one item I was actively pursuing.
I conversed with a lot of creators, some known, some probably unknown. I remember discussing the VHS with both Janet Jackson and Pauline Weiss. There was a missed attempt to get it from Janet and I remember a time lapse. I'm not sure If I got the first copy from Janet or another creator or fan that stepped in to solve the problem. I later got a second copy from Pauline Weiss hoping that it would be better quality. I didn't think it was, so I decided it wasn't worth remaking the DVD.
I spent a large sum of my money collecting the information and it was never my goal to profit or mistakenly appear as though I was profiting. I don't own the rights to the material, I just think that fans deserve to know what the plans were. We invested our time and money in the company's product and we were not given what we were promised..... which was the Schism storyline. The epic never occurred and i think a lot of fans would not have spent the money they did if they could have predicted such a terrible lack of closure.
The more you learn about quantum physics theory as it relates to the mind, you realize that the world is like a bowl of willpowers all competing against one another to survive. It makes the stories more interesting to understand the underlying theme.
Ultimately I decided I'm not going to fight for this stuff anymore. By creating a value for the stuff in the collector market, it just set me at odds with those who want to make money. I'm not going to pay another dime for something that I feel fans deserve. By incurring the expenses I did and compensating others for the materials, it communicated the wrong message. I didn't create my site to put money in anyones pocket. I created my site to provide collectors the stories they were told they'd be able to read. We were promised great things in the ads. I created my site to undo a lie.
More power to those who have no respect for the fans and wish to perpetuate the silence and lack of disclosure. By them winning, we all lose collectively. I guess some people feel like they invested hard work and deserve to be compensated for that. I kinda feel like they made the money they did on false pretenses and that they never would have made some of that money they did make if we the fans had known the truth. So it's really all which angle you look at it.
Like Valiant, DEFIANT is over. Broadway is over. That's the main reason I've run out of reasons to keep the board active.

I thought you got one. I've considered it many times. I just don't want to be the one to post it. I think I have two left unless Gowaltrip got the last one. The higher numbered ones in the teens had defects on the case label. They printed slightly crooked. If you send me your address by PM, I'll see if I can get one out. I was saving a few in case some of the creators wanted one. I sent Charles Yoakum one, but he was the last person to show any interest when the thread was more active. I only made 21. One master copy which got damaged in my office flood ( due to backed up plumbing) and 20 numbered copies all uniquely burned to indicate which number out of 20 it was. My intent was to only offer these to board members and have a secret way to know if they were being mass duplicated by a recipient. It was a "thank you" gift for the fans. For some reason I always thought of you as more of a Broadway fan.
The only Broadway offering I can make is a releasing scans of the Miracle on Broadway comic. I've held back on that out of respect to the fans that have spent $$$ to acquire one.

This was not the only video project I was intending to make available.
I'm pretty sure I burned a few copies of the Firearm video for maybe 5 board members. I have another internal Defiant video intended for employees which features mainly some Entertainment Tonight segments on Dark Horse getting their comics made into films. It has some editing room reel footage of the special effects from The Mask. It was interesting, but not actually Defiant content itself.
I also wanted to make a video from the Defiant comics audio tape. I'd have pieced together scans and artwork to go along with the audio so that there would be something to look at while the story was being told.
Making these would have incurred more costs for me and consumed more time that I didn't want to allocate. There was also a mass exodus from the board at the time. I shelved the projects.

PM sent to vikingspawn (if you are still around). I found my very last DVD to give away. Q HUGE Thanks!!! I just finished watching it! Great work, Quato! That must have been a great environment to work at within the Defiant Comics studios/offices back then. Loved every bit of the video! Pretty awesome to see the brainstorm session of the "Charlemagne" comic too. That cover to "Charlemange #1" is one of my all time favorite comic covers. And seeing Shooter talk about "Schism" was a real highlight too. 4 double sized weekly issues that would have given out the whole Defiant origin! What could have been!!! agh! Do you know the time frame that this video was originally shot? I was trying to figure out the time frame with the comics they were working on in the video. Fall of '93?? It looked cold in the outdoor New York scenes but I didn't see any snow. Maybe Sept./Oct. '93? Those early '90s hairstyles! That hair gel! haha... I'm starting to re-watch this now too see if I spot more easter eggs. I spotted the Lorca statue! (the "zoomed in" M&M's shot on Shooter's desk was pretty funny too..)

They were coloring the February 1994 cover to Warriors of Plasm. If that appears in Previews, then that might have been needed by October 1993. Just a guess. I think your time frame is right. I've never been to New York. Don't really care to go.

For those who have the DVD the board released, there is now a reissued version on a lightscribe disc which states "Special 2009 Release" The case has the same graphics, but it's on regular office paper. The graphics are recreated, but not exact. Variations will be present. The graphics on the case also state that it is a 2009 release. Defiant

Looks nice that way. Are you adding the Dark Horse Comics' office video footage in this edition too?

Looks nice that way. Are you adding the Dark Horse Comics' office video footage in this edition too? No, I'll probably release that separately at some point. It has no Defiant content to speak of, so I've been in so rush to do anything with it. The only office footage it shows is in an entertainment tonight segment. There are more than one ET segments relating to Dark Horse. The reissue disc I scanned above may only go to creators that request it. I did toss in an unlabeled mini-cd of the Plasm audi from the Platinum tin set. I do not consider that to be part of the package. Defiant1
