These pages have a "Ditko" feel to me. Very good stuff.

I'm not getting the Ditko vibe, but I do think they are nice pages. I guess because the Good Guys are in these panels and Good Guys #10 was never published, I thought I was buying unpublished pages at the time. Upon getting home I realized they were published. For me, Dark Dominion didn't really get it's stride until issue #6. By issue #10. I can honestly say it was my second favorite series. Dogs of War being my favorite. I was a bit confused because I had never seen inking credits for Dave Cockrum. I'd only seen penciling credits. When I got home I was quite pleased that Ridgeway was the penciler. I passed on the "Home For the Holidays" pages that were for sale. I never got the purpose of releasing "Home For the Holidays" and it was definitely not Cockrum's best work by any means. I get more of a British feel to the pages. The style of his slacks, the detail. Of course the characters in the quantum state are detailed, but that is to be expected. One thing I didn't care for was Michael Alexander dancing like War Dancer to get around. I thought too many characters were starting to get duplicate abilities. I talked to Louis Small Jr. who drew the cover to Dark Dominion #6, but I didn't ask him about it. Story title: | "The Way to Avalon!" | Date: | July 1994 | Cover Price: | $2.50 | Pages: | 36 (cover included) | Writer(s): | Janet Jackson, Len Wein | Penciler/Artist(s): | John Ridgeway | Cover Artist(s): | John Ridgeway (pencils), Su Mikellner | Inker: | Dave Cockrum | Colorist(s): | Su McTeigue | Letterer: | Rod Ollerenshaw | Editor: | Pauline Weiss | Characters: | Michael Alexander, Styx, Galahad, Thrakahl, Mule, Nobody (Reginald Jackson from The Good Guys), Spellcaster (from The Good Guys) |

Defiant1 Nice table in a post! I'm starting to get with that sorta thing. So cool use of a table.

I'm not getting the Ditko vibe Yeah, me either. Unless not overly detailed equates to Ditko. I was mainly referring to page 19, which reminds me of some of Ditko's Dr. Strange issues where he is battling in the astral realm against various demons. I guess I should have specified that instead of saying "these pages".

Defiant1 Nice table in a post! I'm starting to get with that sorta thing. So cool use of a table. Thanks. I used a table in another thread and it took about 20 minutes to figure out the format and another 20 minutes to populate the text into the format. This time I just copied the other table and populated the data faster. I still have more pages to scan. Just taking advantage of my day off. Defiant1

So it's a stretch, but I can see a connection and understand why you might say that. I think Shooter's whole goal was to go for a Dr. Strange quality to this series. Defiant1

Well, like they say, opinions are like assholes, everyone has them and some of them stink... I edited my last post above. I don't think either opinion stinks in this case. I actually like Ditko's Dr. Strange better than his Spiderman. I own 3 Strange Tales #110 and was shopping for a 4th. I think Dark Dominion was sufficiently modeled after Dr. Strange and that there should be some obvious comparison at some point. This type of tale was a strength Ditko would have had. If anything, I think Shooter picked a concept too personal for Mr. Ditko. Defiant1

I see a lot of Ditko influence, and noticed it immediately, especially in the layouts and the strange floating creatures. I noticed it before brotherj's post referring to Ditko.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice it to "some" degree. It does look like there is a Ditko influence there. I guess I'm just not into the way he pulled it off. Don't get me wrong, the art is good. I just don't think it's a great Ditko impression. I prefer to think it's his own style. Oh, I dont know... I think I'm saying I'd like it better if it was a true Ditko.

I think Ridgeway is a more technically skilled artist. One older collector said this: "There were times when Ditko was only available in Charlton and some of their comics were outshining the competition by powers of magnitude for sheer strangeness as a result; take my word for it, long before Spider-Man, Ditko's weird art jumped off the rack at you as something entirely different." - Michael Powers Ditko was more of a concept guy and a layout guy. Nothing about the art reminds me of Ditko, but possibly the layouts. Shooter has been known to ask artists to do something like Kirby would do. It's entirely possible he asked Ridgeway to do this like Diko would do. Defiant1
