I bought the first Groo #1 from Pacific when it came out. I liked it and I had some beautiful copies. Subsequently I got out of comics completely and I was not buying anything after Pacific's early issues. At some point when I got back into comics I decided there were too many issues out there and that I wasn't going to collect the character or the books. I may have used my Groo issues as trade fodder for Silver age. I really can't remember. Finding some Groo issues from Marvel in my collection tells me one thing... I got them extremely cheap. Probably for a dime when a store was closing. These have price tags on them which tells me they were probably priced in the 80's when they were still hot. Sergio Aragone's Groo The Wanderer #2 Sergio Aragone's Groo The Wanderer #4 Sergio Aragone's Groo The Wanderer #5 And the price tags that was on these... $14 for #2, $12 each for #4 & #5. Basically the idea of getting a $10 book for a dime is what inspired me to grab them. I like Groo, it's just not a book I plan on collecting. Defiant1

I really like Groo and I wish I had collected it consistently from the beginning. As much as I like it, I'm not actively looking to collect the 120 issue Epic Comics series or the many Image and Dark Horse mini series. I do have a complete run of the Pacific series, the Eclipse Special, his first appearances in Destroyer Duck and Starslayer and at least the first 13 or 14 issues of the Epic series, along with scattered later issues including the last one, #120.

The Marvel Groo run is a classic. Those were the days when they had the hilarious "stand alone" stories. Aragones draws the best crowd scenes. ;D The latest Dark Horse runs have been good but they've been a little too preachy with the political stories lately in the last 2 mini-series. Hopefully the next Groo/Conan series will shake thing up again when it comes out. Issue #120 from Marvel is real tough to find these days. If anyone sees any in their shops, snap them up if they are hidden in any back issue boxes. I remember issue #119 took me forever to track down. Actually, any issues from #100-120 are pricey these days. With the Image run following close behind with low print runs too.

This teaser is featured on the last page of last weeks' Groo Hogs of Horder #4: Groo vs Conan! I read Tom Yeates (Tarzan) is drawing the Conan portions of the mini series while Aragones draws the Groo parts. Should be a cool crossover.

Here's a Groo Sketch Card from Wildstorm that I found for $10 on ebay. I got lucky finding this one since the seller mispelled Sergio's last name in the auction listing and no one else caught it: ;D And the old promo sheet I was hunting for awhile: Planning to use this as a custom front cover display art for a card binder for the regular cards...ala "Plasm" front cover style.

Per Mark Evanier on 11/16/2010:
"GROO VS. CONAN: The first two issues are done. There have been no discussions about when to schedule it but I'm guessing we'll announce a date in the next month or two and that the first issue of four will be out around April, maybe in time for WonderCon in San Francisco."

I sold a set of Playboy Chromium Cards to Mark several years ago through eBay. I told him I was a fan of his CBG column. I always found them to be very informative.

I recall that his articles were interesting, but quite often had nothing to do with comics. My only interaction with him was regarding his project to donate comics to Len Wein after his fire. I donated some Victorian comics to the project. I offered a low grade X-Men #94 that I have as a duplicate, but he told me I didn't need to send that since he had another possible source. I also directed him to some freeware pdf writing software that didn't leave a watermark. He was using some software that left a watermark. I'm indifferent about most of what he writes. He has a very interesting background and knowledge about things that other people just don't tend to share. Defiant1

The old coloring way looks better. A couple of years ago, a friend was able to get me a full issue color guide of one of the old Marvel Groo issues from Tom Luth: The issue where Groo marries the very hawt "Bunta".... Here's page 1: Page 2 & 3: These look tons better than what ended up in the printed books from the '80s. The old comics have that dot matrix look on the pages and even in the recent Dark Horse trade reprints too. I heard he rarely does water coloring these days since all his "MAD" & Groo work is now computer colorized.

I wonder if that was printed in the 80's when they shifted to plastic printing plates. Janet Jackson once described in an interview how people at the printers colored the comics based upon the color guides. It was a real outdated process.
