Thought Vikingspawn mights like this Bongo ad from Comics Retailer Magazine (#70). Defiant1 That's awesome. I see the Roswell character in there too. I'm probably the only person who buys Bongos in my area. The three shops here just order 3 copies of each title and i'm a subscriber to each of them. One spot will throw in old early issues for free in my box since they don't move for them and they see I get a kick of the line when I buy my copies. Another shop just scored a ton of back issues that look in pretty awesome shape. I've been slowly buying them week per week.

Bongo made something kind of similar a few months ago where they had 3 different writers write 3 stories based on one cover. 3 different story takes based on what might explain the finished cover art: www.bongocomics.com/blog/12/19/2011/in-stores-122111I'm about 85% complete on finishing the Bongo U.S. run. My friends used to push me to draw a comic. I was hanging around their store and I drew fake comic covers on their post it note pads. It's amazing how a properly done cover can inspire a whole story. Defiant1 You should submit to Bongo! Seriously. They take art submissions at the end of the books. The recent books have alot more range of art styles and it's not as strict to look like the show. I can't draw for anything. I can maybe pull off writing 4 panel gag. Or a rough looking pantomime.

That's one reason I roll my eyes when people complain about their shop not ordering 20 copies of something. If people don't want it, they don't want it. Shoving more copies in their face isn't going to make them want it. Defiant1

Did Mary Fleener do a syndicated cartoon?

I think her cartoons appeared in the same '80s magazines as Groenings had. I think I have a few underground mini comics with some of her one pagers from conventions.

The name seemed familiar, but at first I was remembering Linda Barry's syndicated strip which I think I read alongside "Life In Hell". Defiant1

Here's a new Fleener variant cover for Popeye #13 from IDW: *adds to cart* *grouping with Bongos* Was it ever explained in the cartoons why Popeye has one eye shut?

I don't remember one eye being shut. Hmmm! I'm very disappointed with IDW doing variants. Publishers need to rise above. Defiant1

IDW was getting too much for me with their multiple Rocketeer variants for every issue. And those Groo Artists Editions "variants" for $1200 too.

J/K Defiant1 Heck no...haha...I got one with my local store name on it and that's enough for me. The Mars Attacks bundles are pretty insane too. Popeye I like and the print runs are tiny each month with 4000 and under. Maybe the CG movie next year will be interesting in a Shrek kind of way.

I was tempted to buy Peanuts and all the cartoon character comics. All that stuff seems to be well done.- Not sure if it's all IDW though. Defiant1

Those are pretty fun and not as crazy with the variants. When they do do variants, it's a special Charles Shulz "1st appearance" cover for each character: www.kaboom-studios.com/series/title?series_id=770&name=Peanuts

Those variants are tasteful, but I wish they didn't exist!
