Always a classic! Silver Surfer #3 (Vol. 1) Defiant1 #4 always gets all the praise, but I think #3 is under rated. I own one of these as well and I absolutely love it!

Well, I do have a #1 & #4 which were the first 2 I ever bought. I got this much later and it's a prettier copy.

Here is my #4 Silver Surfer #4 (Vol. 1) This is one book I've always wanted to own. It saddens me I never have owned one. I think for it's day it has classic written all over it. I think if you were a collector back then and seen this hit the stands, I don't see how you couldn't buy it. If you didn't buy this for 25 cents when it came out and had a chance to....you just sucked at being a collector and may you forever live in shame.

It predates my collecting. Silver Surfer was one character that Stan Lee wouldn't let anyone else write until someone talked him into letting the SS be a Defender. Even then he didn't appear a lot. Did you ever notice how the 2nd tier Warner Bros.characters really had a resurgence in the 80's? Characters like Marvin the Martian and the Tasmanian Devil were very notable characters that fans wanted to see more of. The fact fans didn't see more actiually helped boost their popularity later on. I think that happened with the Silver Surfer. \ #4 was the first one I bought from this series. #1 was the second.
Don't own #2, but it interested me because it tied in with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Marvel Presents as well as I think Marvel Team Up #4... or somewhere near that issue.

I only own the #3 which I think is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. I would love to own #1 - #4 and then maybe move on to owning the rest. I've come closest to getting a #1. I think I lost an auction on it by like 5 seconds a few years ago. I've never came close to owning a #4 which I desire a lot more than a #1. #2 almost seems out of place in appearance. It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look as classic as 1, 3 and 4. It merely looks very good. Which isn't a bad thing compared to so many other series. Silver Surfer in Defenders never really thrilled me. But when buying Defenders, I think he makes those issues he is in a bit more desirable. I own nearly all of the 2nd series (the Lim years) which now I think mostly suck. I'd much prefer owning the 1st series. It's short and sweet. Not impossible to collect the entire series and has a lot of cool looking covers. If I was around collecting back then, I tend to think I would have been buying them.
