But I bet that 10% of the 'members' are the ones who actually POST here and utilize the site more. Now I know that doesnt make it an overwhelming vote but hey, I am trying here !!!

But I bet that 10% of the 'members' are the ones who actually POST here and utilize the site more. Now I know that doesnt make it an overwhelming vote but hey, I am trying here !!! Have you noticed that nobody is posting here even when Greg's board is dead? First it responded that it had been hacked or sabotaged by some server virus or webworm. 2nd it was pretty much blank. 3rd it had a link to his other page. Today it's reading "error 403: Forbidden!" Something leads me to believe he's having a Merry Christmas shopping a new host. It sounds like the budget hosting companies either can't get enough buisness to stay afloat or they cut costs by not applying server security patches. I'm not saying this site won't ever have probems, but I feel as though I'm getting a better value. I get top placings on search engines and this board is 100% free. No begging for donations. No nagging. The site tosses up a few banner ads that are easily blocked with software filters. Surely there are some fans like youself that could get their feet wet and make a killer comic book site. I wouldnt mind getting a website together for Defiant and Broadway... guess you have to know HTML, HUH ?
One thing I notice is that THIS site is WAAAAAYYYY faster than 'another' site that is out there. And I can post after post after post in rapid succession where as I have to WAIT on 'another' site for it to download or something.... rule rule rule and more rules. geez... LOL

Hey... I POST !!! I wouldnt mind getting a website together for Defiant and Broadway... guess you have to know HTML, HUH ? One thing I notice is that THIS site is WAAAAAYYYY faster than 'another' site that is out there. And I can post after post after post in rapid succession where as I have to WAIT on 'another' site for it to download or something.... rule rule rule and more rules. geez... LOL One of the download problems is wth the animated gif files and the fact they are coming from a diverse range of servers. When you type a domain name like www.genericwebsite.com, it has to map that to an IP number ###.###.###.###. The server checks locally first for a nameserver that host the info. If it can't find it there it steps up, and maybe up again until it gets to a nameserver that can recognize the domain name. That process can delay things. Those cute litlle animated gifs can be the equivalent of 2 avatars or they can be the equivalent of 20. They are a slideshow. If 6 different people are posting with large animated gifs, it slows things down considerably. Most of my avatars are hosted on a slow free server overseas and they are single frames. I paid attention to the size and compression on almost all of them. The server is slow, but since they are all coming from one place, it's not looking all over the web for different domain names. Speed of download was factored for most of the pages I created and I believe that helps with search engine placement. Google knows how long it takes to cache each page in their search engine. I work off the assumption that they want as many return visits as possible and slow loading pages adversely impact the number of ad placements they can achieve. None of my pages ever use an image as a background. Few or none of my pages use large graphic files. If they do, I try to make sure they are shared by multiple pages so you get images on each page without having to download a new one each time. Every ounce of layout had a technical thought put behind it. I was on dial-up and I assume there are many others on the same. Defiant1
