Well, I found out about this today. www.atlantacomicsexpo.org/It looks like a spinoff from Dragon Con. I suspect it has something to to with the owner of Dragon Con possibly selling (or sold?) his chain of comic book stores. Dragon Con has drifted further and further away from comics over the years. It was probably decided that a major convention/expo was necessary to keep the comic hobby healthy in the city. Here is their LiveJournal Page: community.livejournal.com/atl_comics_expoHere is their Myspace Page www.myspace.com/atlantacomicsexpoAll they are missing is a facebook page. David Mack is booked as the first guest. Q

In a couple of months I should be moving back to the Philly area, so I'm sure there will be a lot more good comic shows (and better comic shops) out that way. I might even have to start going to some New York shows. Philly is fairly close to NY, but I've never been there, even after living in the Philly area for 27 years.

Atlanta could use some better comic related conventions. We had the Atlanta Fantasy Fair which was great, but a divorce between the owners ruined it as part of the aftermath. Dragon Con was a decent comics show the first year I attended. Eventually it all shifted more towards TV/movie and everything else. We have a 1 day show about 3 or 4 times a year. I'm told the owner got a kick start because the owner of dragon con owner let him have a copy their mailing list. It's had a healthy attendance, but you see a lot of the same books and dealers at every show. You also see the same creators too often at these shows. It gets tiresome seeing the same creators over and over. How many times can you get excited receiving an autograph from the same person? I wish some New York or LA creators would expand their convention touring and visit Atlanta for a change. I've never been noth of Harrisburg PA and I was young then. I was in Philadelphia once in 1976. I have a proof set of the Bicentennial Coins that I bought at the Mint. I saw the Liberty Bell. I liked the city. I remember Baltimore being like a sewer pit. It's just a nasty ugly city. Defiant1

I lived about 30 miles outside of Philly and always tried my best to stay out of there. I would usually only go there for a sporting event, concert or comic show. South Street is pretty nice, a real diverse shopping area, but most of Philly reminds me of a sewer. I never even saw the Liberty Bell or Independence Hall until I took my wife (girlfriend at the time) to see them. As for Baltimore, I've probably never been to the bad parts of that city, because the place I went to, the Inner Harbor is incredibly beautiful. It's where Camden Yards is located. It's great just walking around and seeing the sites, also going out on the ferry boat for the tour. My wife and I and some friends did all the touristy type stuff before taking in an Orioles game, great fun!

I'm sure the Inner harbor had not been built up as a nice place in 1976. The second time, there was about ten feet of snow on the ground and I had to meet a court date in Virginia the next day. Yeah, my court date coincided with one of the worst winter show storms of the past decade. I had to drive 13 hours through ice. Once I had, a friend decide he wanted to go vist his Uncle. North of Baltimore. We rarely get snow in Georgia so you can imagine how much fun I had driving through it all in areas I wasn't familiar with. There is a good chance that one of my relatives made the Liberty Bell. My last name is on the side and there were only about 14 families with our last name during the 1840 census. Defiant1

Unless my friend wants to go to this, I probably won't. I'm simply not impressed with the guest list, I hate the traffic around the hotel, and I have better things to waste money on.

He said he'd call me tomorrow. He wants to prey on any dealers that do poorly so he can get good deals.

Good luck, man. I should actually try that some time, go to a multi day con on the last day and see what kind of deals I can get. When I went to Wizard World Chicago, I always tried to get there on the first day as early as possible, mainly because I didn't want to miss out on the good books in the bargain bins. Kind of silly, I guess, because with so many tables, it's unlikely I would hit many of them before they were pretty well picked over...

I prefer fresh sacrifices. He prefers clearance prices. He deals in bulk, I prefer to deal with rarity or obscurity. I don't have the patience to do what he does.... not anymore. If this show is as bad as I think it is, going on Sunday won't make a difference. Q

Didn't go to the show. It would have been a chance to talk Charlton Comics with Dick Giordano and see if he'd sell me the Makeshift pages I'm missing.
All-in-All though I'd rather spend my money spoiling the girl I love. Got some much needed sleep. Working on G through M on the Charlton checklist until then.
