I fist found out about this series from friends saying it was referenced on the Roseanne Show. The characters with wear Dr. Radium shirts. It was an amusing comic. I even have a "Lab Notes" newsletter somewhere. defiant1

I think that was how I first got into Milk and Cheese, I remember seeing it on a T-Shirt the David character wore.

yep, David and Darlene were a bunch of comic nerds. I think they were even going to do their own comic.

I just thought it was funny that I said the same thing in that newer post and your reply was the same. I do have a tendency to repeat myself. Mostly for emphasis. I think more collectors should be interested in this stuff.

Dr. Radium got a little attention because the kids on the Roseanne tv show would wear shirts related to his comic. I thought it was a fun read. Somewhere I have one of the "Lab Notes" newsletters they sent out. cfs

The Roseanne show was also the reason I got into the Milk and Cheese comic. They were both by Slave Labor Graphics. Maybe there was a connection there.
I know Joss Whedon wrote for Roseanne (and then the Buffy stuff) and also did some comic stuff. I wonder if he was the reason for the frequent comic book image appearances on the Roseanne show.

Slave Labor Comics still survives. Too lazy to see if a 1st printing of Lenore #1 is worth anything. I think Vasquez did it and he has a little cult following. Defiant1

WYRD Slave Labor also published this noteworthy series. It feature Valiant characters in some of the backgrounds. I sometimes wonder if it is Jim Shooter depicted towards the last issues. It was released while Jim Starlin was working on Unity 2000. #1 #3 #5 #6 I have all the issues and the TPB. defiant1

That is weird. Did Starlin just write it, or did he draw it also?

I assumed that was who Defiant1 was talking about... Starbrand was correct. I was talking about the tall guy to the right. he's very tall in the comics. True, they both have a long nose. Never understood why Starlin drew stupid noses... but you can't see the main character's long nose on that cover. defiant1

Here is a publication I think Valiant fans should have an interest in.... store.slavelabor.com/WYRDCinfo.shtmlThis comic was published alongside Unity2000 and has several Valiant Comics cameos in the story. It is a Jim Starlin project. It is entertaining, but the main character is a bit 'cartoony'. It almost appears as if the story features a character based on Jim Shooter, but I can't say one way or another. Check it out... Defiant1

sounds like they are trying to set up something close to Comixpress. It sounded to me that it was everything except print on demand. It sounds like "hire us for our knowledge". Defiant1

It's not real clear. It sounds to me like they'll do the prepress preparation and work with the printer for you.

Some positive talk was going on about this title. I picked it up because it looked like it was well done. I read it for the first time just now. It's okay. It's about a guy working in a video rental shop that also sells indy comics. He had to discontinue Spider-man because he couldn't meet the order minimums. Funny! SLG trying to expand their market I guess. It's okay. Similar to Optic Nerve, but a more focused theme and a less enjoyable read. I assume the title refers to that 1st job you get that has no future. The comic evidently had no future either. The Waiting Place #2 Defiant1

Speaking of Slave Labor, I just finished reading my set of Samurai Penguin, which was the company's first big hit from the time of the Black and White comics glut. It was a light read, the author tried to make the "penguin life" as close to reality as he could, but while inserting a penguin samurai as their protector. The artwork in the first three issues by Mark Buck was excellent, but once he left, it got bad immediately as there was a string of poor artists, none of whom stayed more than one issue.
Hoping to pick up the rest of the Dr. Radium run sometime.

My scanning project will slow when I go back to work in January. I'm sure I'll find more surprises as I try and scan this stuff and get it in alphabetical order. I started with one long box and i've moved to a magazine box which had mixed size objects in it.
