Welcome aboard. I might even break 100 members one day Defiant1 You've got five members left to get to 100. All you have to is have one more person from VF.com sign up and you'll 106 members easy ;D. Kidding, kidding...really I am . Hey gowaltrip (hopefully you'll notice this thread again) what part of NC do live in? I'm guessing the northern part of the state. I live in Greensboro and work in Winston.

Yeah lots of colleges and lots of cuties but the cutiest one is my wife (who ironically I met at the college down the road from where I live). Northeast NC. I don't think I've been to that area of the state. Any decent comic shops there?

I just got married last October and Ive never been happier in my life. So, want to say that above all else. But, I still indulge in eye candy once in awhile. Anyway....the Comic Store situation here sucks. There was one store right before I moved here. I checked it out and it sucked. It was like some 20 something year old who somehow got a big store that looked ratted out and he kept it junky and dirty. Once I moved into town. I went back and he was out of business. There was another store. I went by there on a rare weekday off around 11am. The door was open. I walked in and was met with some guy who told me they were closed until 2pm??? I thought he had just turned down a paying customer. I didnt come back for like 3 weeks and that was only because I was in the neighborhood. I finally got to go in a 7pm, but they were telling me they were closing. But they would let me look. 5 geeks were playing a role playing card game on the table. The comic boxes were stacked on top of each other (not side by side). I looked at the boxes on top. If I wanted to view what was underneath, I would have had to take boxes off boxes (just unbelievable). They had nothing but books from like 1999 to present. Overpriced at that. Someone said...the good stuff is over there. I went to the rack. On the rack was more junk. The best thing up there was a Kirby New Gods #1 in GD....I kid you not $99. I left and havent returned. I left knowing that I personally had a 50 times better collection than their store. If I want comics. I have to travel to Virginia. As it turns out...its worth the trip these days.

It's been a long time, but as a child, I used to make trips to North Carolina as my grandparents were from there. I don't remember a lot about it. My relatives down there live in Yancey County. I think the nearest town is a place called Burnsville and Asheville is the closest big city.
So what, do all of you guys have Southern accents? ;D
I've personally got the Philadelphia accent, which is a language all in its own. I haven't lost it yet even after 8 years living in the Midwest.

I've been told by a language expert that I have a Tennessee accent. That's where my family is from. I was born and raised in Georgia. If I stay here much longer I'll probably pick up an Indian, Mexican, Bosnian, or Asian accent. Rednecks are becoming a rare breed here. Defiant1

Depends on who's listening It seems like an obligatory civil war reference goes here, but I'm not sure. None that I'm aware of. Literally accents depend on who is listening. If I talked to someone from my section of NC, they hear no accent. If I'm talking to someone from New York, they hear an accent. Plus I can add an an additional bit of "southernness" to my voice when needed. It puts people at ease sometimes. People tend to believe more in the sincerity of something they hear in a southern accent (but not one that's too thick, lest you sound ignorant).

I was told by a Connecticut girl that my voice reminded her of Jeff Foxworthy. I didn't tell her that was insulting. I actually like Connecticut and Rhode Island accents. Don't care much for New York accents. Q

Oh gosh...I could talk about this subject for a long time.
Being that I talk to 20 - 50 people a day on average. I make it a point to try and not have a Southern Accent, because Mr. Luck is so right that the perception from other parts of the country is instant hickness and ignorance. One of the worst questions I get asked at my job is "Where are you guys located?" The second the word Virginia comes out of your mouth, you can almost hear a drop in respect.
Its amazing to me that the area's of the country who seem to pride themselves at being the smartest and most cutting edge, seem to need the most help. And the areas of the country who many would consider the weakest in smarts rarely ever call for assistance. (I do not know if that means they are just too dumb to dial). But after doing this for 9 years....I could stereo type parts of the country real easy. And yes, it is wrong, because even though there are many that follow the herd of the people that live around them, there are also quite a few who seperate themselves from the crowd and prove to be quite the opposite. So I resist in doing that. But certainly I have my favorite parts of the country on average to deal with.
