Here's a VALIANT color art cover that I just bought from Sonicdan: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230053764052I know you're not a fan of post Shooter VALIANT, but I think this is one of the best covers off ANY VALIANT comic and I'm very proud to own it. I'll be putting it on display in our new house, in whatever room I designate the "comic book room"! ;D

I value Janet's coloring as being worth more. Dan has it priced for what he knows it's worth. I just know that art changes hands at a fraction of that value behind trhe scenes so I shoot for a compromise between wholesale and retail estimated value. Defiant1

Yep, I kind of figured I was paying pretty much full value. I posted about it over on the vf board, and I really didn't get any posts saying "wow, great deal!" just saying they thought it was a nice piece. I'm going to have it framed and put it on display so I'll have to figure out how to do that so it stays in top condition.

I'm going to have it framed and put it on display so I'll have to figure out how to do that so it stays in top condition. I hate to break the news, but that's probably not a good idea. If this was colored with Doc Martin colors, they are very subject to fading. I was first made aware of this by Kim Demulder. I was discussing the Kubert school with him at Dragon Con. He either is or was an instructor there. I asked him about Sue McTeigue who supposedly taught there and also colored some Defiant books. The conversation then shifted to coloring and that was when he warned me about fading. Later Charles Yoakum describe the color pieces with a word that seemed unusual. The word escapes me, but I asked him why he used it. He then went on to describe that the color art always went straight into filing cabinets and were stored where light could not hit them. You'll may also notice they are stored with a piece of paper covering them. I suppose it's possible that Valiant changed their coloring methods, but I seriously doubt they eliminated the problem. I keep mine covered and in the dark. All are in oversized Mylar sleeves. I don't see any fading on my pieces, but if what the experts say is true, they've already lost some of their original brilliance. The only exception would be some of Tim Perkins stuff. He described thoroughly his work-around to the problem using acrylics. Pauline Weiss said she printed a copy of Wardancer #5 color art scan I'd made and hung that on their wall. She said she was happy with that. I'd almost say that's the safe route to go. Defiant1

hmmm, well that kind of sucks, that's kind of the reason I bought the piece, so I could put on display. I don't get a whole lot of enjoyment just owning the stuff and just looking at it once in a while. My comic book area is likely going to be in our finished basement, so there shouldn't be an issue of sunlight hitting it, not sure if just light from a light fixture would be a problem, as well. I'll try to figure out something...

I'll try to figure out something... Yeah, it didn't thrill me either. I'm pretty sure I don't want comic book items filling my walls but it would've been nicer to find out before I spent all the money. I did know before I bought War Dancer #1, so it didn't stop me from buying anything. Fluorescent light of any kind would be bad. I was going to say you could try UV filtered glass, but if the colors are that sensitive I doubt even that will help. Defiant1
