When I was running out of time to draw my cartoon, I would sometimes sketch out panels at work during meetings to keep myself in practice. I'd also plot out stories in my head so that I could do them later with hopefully a cleaner look. The following piece was drawn at work in blue ink pen. Unlike my earlier work where I'd spend hours trying to draw one panel and I'd wear out an eraser, this story was a rough "get it close in one take or miss your shot" effort. So although this looks like some of my other pieces, it was a marked improvement because I told a story in one take. Later I photocopied the notebook paper and lettered it on break while at work. I think a cleaned up and redone version was to be included in the "Tales of Misery" collection.... Insults welcome.... My stuff is usually interesting just like a train wreck. People always tell me they want to see more. Defiant1 "I ain't no stinkin' comics creator... I just draw s#!t...."

I don't remember who said it. I was already doing it. They said to draw a cartoon, you need to have characteristic that you can reproduce in your characters and they must be clearly distinguishable. Charlie Brown wouldn't be Charlie Brown without that shirt. Superman wouldn't be Superman without the "S" logo. Captain America wouldn't be Captain America without being an idealist. All my characters have pretty distinct personalities. Their strengths & weaknesses are clear. The formula for writing the villian is the simplest you could imagine therefore it's very repeatable. I actually like writing him the most which is why he was a spin-off character. Even today I can almost pick a topic or subject and write a story around him because the formula is simple. I was really fascinated by the depth of this wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_SueIt will probably inspire some future characters on a new formula. defiant1

You have an original way of telling a story Q! ;D Alpo for Everybody! Wait... I forgot to say... Alpo was for the dogs. If you think he's going to let humans eat his dog food, you are crazy. He loves those dogs. They get in to the neighbor's trash. They bite the kids in the neighborhood. They crap in everyone's yard. They do all that and he still hasn't finished training them yet. defiant1 BTW, I showed this to my family, they didn't get it. I suspect others won't either. This one always makes me laugh.... even more than my others that people do compliment. It's like going to a Russian film when you are used to American films. Most cartoons in the newspaper bore me, so I don't even want the same approach.

I actually like this pic a lot. A little more work on the held up arm and crossed leg and this pic could would be pretty dang decent! 95% of the drawings Ive done in my life have been of the doodle variety.
