There are at least three kinds of covers, and more if you start counting polybagged Whitman comics.
1) Direct editions - Distributed through the direct market 2) Newsstand Editions - Distributed through the direct market. 3) Newsstand Editions - Distributed through magazine vendors.
It is possible to have two variations on a Newsstand edition. I'm not sure if any cases have been documented, I'm just saying it's possible. What might the differences be? Well, one could say Newsstand to inform collectors it is a non-premium comic. The others may say nothing. My point is that a true newsstand comic is one which was sold through the newsstand. At a later date, the direct market tried to capitalize upon extra sales they could get by releasing gimmick free covers. Don't assume the two newsstand comics will look alike.
