Yesterday I was buying a bunch of books and part of it, I was dumpster diving when I happened upon these. I dont normally buy Pacific books, but they were striking me as very nice and they were in like VF+ to NM condition. There was actually a few more there that I didnt pick up and now I am regretting this. Once I got these home, I kept admiring them more and more. The only Pacific books I had actually had before were probably Kirby related. I dont think I had ever even seen these before or if I had, I had probably played them off as junk because they wasnt one of the big boys. Im especially fond of the Dave Stevens Alien Worlds #4, which seems so Good Girl Golden Age-ish! I just became a big fan of his by this one cover alone. The interiors are likewise very nice. I hate to say it, but as I was putting them into my "Im going to buy it" pile, I was think of Q and Brother J. Being on this board is expanding my horizons. Im branching out more these days. Q, do you have a list of Pacifics? Because, suddenly, I just became a big fan. What do you guys think of these and other Pacifics in general?

P.S. I got 63 books of which these were a part of, of books of similar quality out of the dumpster. I got another 10 "sticker price" books of which the sticker prices were $70. Totally for all 73 comics?
$40 ;D

Pacific books are great. They were one of the first companies paying the artist royalties and that's how they lured Neal Adams back into comics. That's how they got Jack Kirby. Anything by Dave Stevens is great. Of the ones you scanned, the only one I own is #2. Those were coming out right as i was getting out of comics. I was buying so many Marvel Comics and back issues then that I passed on some Pacific stuff. I was finishing up my X-men run around then and that was tapping my budget. All great stuff you got. The only down side is that they had heavy distribution for an indy company and the stories didn't always live up to the art. That's the reason you see these in dollar or quarter boxes.
Pacific Comics:
1...1st Folio 7...Alien Worlds....#8-9 published by Eclipse. 1...Alien Worlds 3-D 4...Bernie Wrightson, Master of the Macabre....#5 published by Eclipse. 3...Bold Adventures 14..Capt. Yeah, I've got a bunch of these, complete or near complete runs of titles like Twisted Tales, Alien Worls, Alien Encounters, and Bernie Wrightson, Master of the Macabre. I've also got a complete run of the Pacific Groo issues plus some extras. I think I have all the Neal Adams books, as well. Good deal, gowaltrip!

Am I reading this right, there are only 108 Pacifics? d**n! Do me a favor. At least pay the house note before you go looking on ebay. I don't have any contacts at the Betty Ford clinic and they won't be able to cure comic book addiction anyway. Q

Im convinced by one purchase (I already had a few) that I need to go for the rest. Amazing. Any Ultra-Rares, Expensives or just plain hard-to-gets on this list? Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure there's nothing overly hard to find, and the most expensive books are probably the Groo issues.

Wasnt Rog 2000 a Charlton Character? Like in the Space 1999 books a backup story? I think Bryne drew it so that is why I am thinking Space 1999, but I could be wrong. But I remember having an old Modern Reprint and it had a Rog 2000 in it, but that was a long time ago.

Upon rereading, I think the corrected version is the tough one...
Initially Shadow at cpg said this:
On the Rog 2000...my information is:
1st printing is dated June 1982...pages are out of order. 2nd printing is dated July 1982...pages are in correct order.
Later he said this:
Both may have July 1982 dates. The error in the first printing is as follows:
As published in this edition, Page 19 is the first page of Withering Heights, then the last page (25 as printed) should follow next, then page 20, 21 next, 24 next, 22 next, and 23 is the last page.
Later "lookwhoitis" said:
it looks like I have the misprint as well...just to clarify, on pg 19 i have the beginning of Withering Heights....page 25 is actually Rog2000 walking up tp the place with the boarded up house in a 1/3 pg splash panel...so that would seem out of order to me LOL!
who would've thought that the CORRECTED version of Rog2000 might be harder to get!
I got confused because I forgot there were two printings. I knew I had a correct version, but mine is a second printing. So it appears that first printings are tougher than second printings and corrected first printings are tougher than error first printings. That would make sense because less people probably went out and bought a corrected version after they'd already bought an error copy. They may not have even known the first printing had an error if they didn't read it.
This is just based what a few completists have said. There may be a healthy supply of them all. I just know I don't see it very often.
Shadow also said the last two issues of Twisted Tales were tough for him to get.

I think the Pacific book is probably just a collection of those stories. It's magazine sized.

Wait a minute! I may still have made the wrong assumption. Maybe there is no corrected first printing?! If that's the case, I'm pretty sure I own the second printing. Of course I'll find it later and realize my memory is shot to hell and I have the error version too.

Shadow has clarified for me....
Rog 2000...
Two printings...same issue. First printing has some pages in the wrong order... 2nd printing is IDENTICAL...except it has the pages in the right order... Defiant1

I've been pondering whether or not I want to make a Pacific Comics web page. I like expanding on the Charlton Site, but creating some others would break up the monotony.

Pacific would be interesting, as would an Eclipse checklist. I would imagine an Eclipse list would be quite a challenge as they put out quite a lot of stuff while in business.

I'm working on a Pacific Checklist now. (Nothing against Charlton, I just need a mental rest from straightening, resizing, and airbrushing defects off of pictures.) Defiant1

Reposted this reply I made on the comics price guide forum...
The only reference I see online is that EROS published a title by that name. I'm also curious about the inclusion of "One" which is listed as the first Pacific Comics publication. I've always considered Captain Victory #1 to be Pacific's first comic. Rozanski says in one of his columns that Pacific was founded in 1980. An article about the Schane brothers is here... www.sdreader.com/php/cover.php?mode=article&showpg=1&id=20040819Did they just conveniently forget they published something in 1977? The Grand Comics database has a question mark next to Schane's name. He's not mentioned in any of the credits otherwise. Is it possible that someone else used the "Pacific Comics" name? The Schane brothers were San Diego based. The only reference I can find to a Phillip Garrison (the artist) is someone located in San Fransisco. I was creating a checklist. For the sake of my checklist, I'm leaving off "One". Even if the Schane Brothers published it, they were running a distributorship at the time, not a comic book company. I don't feel that owning "One" is necessary for a Pacific Comics set. I don't see a clear connection to the company I know as "Pacific Comics". I'm also skeptical about Ghita. Why at the prime of their publishing would the brand everything on the cover with their logo except this title. Doesn't make sense to me. Defiant1

I'm pretty sure Ghita was not published by Pacific. Ghita was an adult comic by Frank Thorne. I believe it was originally published in various magazines. As far as a comic book release, this is the first edition I recall, circa the early 80's: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260096038617It was a collected graphic novel, but not by Pacific.

It was probably added to their price guide by mistake. I seriously question that "One" is by them either. www.comics.org/series.lasso?seriesid=7230The company has the same name, but that doesn't mean anything. There is alos a publisher called the Pacific Comics Club which is not related. Defiant1

Well, I've pretty much got the Pacific list up. It looks like I need to add "One". People who own the book claim it was definitely from the same brothers who published Captain Victory and all the other classic titles I remember.
I'm curious about Eclipse, but I don't want to immerse myself too deeply. I'm actually more interested in Claypool, but I don't think I'll ever try to get the scans.
Do you have any thoughts on Millenium? or Caliber? I'd forgotten about them. I probably have more Caliber & Millenium than the others. I was buying cavewoman, The Lost, Oz, War of The Worlds, Kabuki, Door man and quite a few Caliber books. I really liked Tiger Woman by Millenium.
Not sure what to pick at next.
