Sorry I havent been around much lately. Im still honestly adjusting to the new job and I have been doing a lot of overtime. I was given my 1st assignments and I must say, I feel very overwhelmed. But, I must say, I love the new job. I just want to be on schedule instead of way behind. I went from hating my job and the day goes by morbidly slow, to loving what I do and the day is going by way too fast. I feel like I just want to get stuff done and dont feel happy with the results. Anyway, as much as I wrote, I probably shouldnt of posted here. But originally and I still do want to say that I still love the larger size of the message board. I feel it is more inviting and makes you want to look around. Now...if we can just get some love on a Charlton section, this place would be hot! Seriously, sorry I have been a stranger. Even if Im not here for awhile, dont take it personally. I wont ever go too long without showing up. Consider that a threat! ;D

With the FTP links working again, this page is still out there. It just needs a lot of work. topps13.tripod.com//temp/Charlton_index.htmlI'll pick at it some day. defiant1

That is such a huge task. I would never expect anyone to have a checklist on Charltons, but it would be cool if someone did have it. I always considered them as like the #3 publisher of comics at one time and they were around for what, 30 years? So its not like putting together a list for Broadway or even Valiant. I would be happy just to talk about them from time to time...
Well, it looks like I just did.
Seriously, I like talking about all of the publishers. It expands my horizons.

I'm biased against some publishers. Lev Gleason is one. Charlton actually tried and released some interesting stuff. A lot of others just went through the motions. The worst thing about Charltons is that they played games with numbers and volumes. You have to have the comics in front of you to sort out what issue number & volume it is. Defiant1

Their crappiness at times is Legendary. I dont know why, but that is part of the attraction to me. Sick hunh?
But, since I have been actively going after them, I have found a few gems too. Truly some of their stuff to me at least, is way underloved. Hoping people one day realize some of that is also some of the appeal.

Hey, I really like the Charlton romance comics, really romance comics in general, but the Charlton ones are especially good because of the cheesiness factor. I particularly like that issue of For Lovers Only #73 (I think) that has the guy spanking the woman on the cover. You couldn't get away with that nowadays!

I gave Gowaltrip most of my Charlton comics. I seem to recall there being some romance comics mixed in, but I'm not sure. I think I read one, but I might be confusing it with some Gold Key True Ghost Stories. I never read many Charlton books. Doomsday+1 or Bionic Woman might be it. I used to like Top Cat when I first started collecting comics. Defiant1

Yes and that was kind of a deal that really made my collection a big jumpstart. It boosted me into buying more and more. I cannot thank you enough for that. And yes, there were some nice Romance books in there. Perhaps some of the best conditioned books in the lot. Im one to think that 80 - 85% of what they did is pure crap. But put together a run of it on certain titles and it just becomes something I admire a great deal. Every now and then I purchase a book and it has a big name in it and/or a surprisingly good story. These are the ones I like the most!

Im derailing your thread, very sorry about that, but I'll make this my last comment. One thing I have to have when I BUY (emphasis on Buy) Charltons. I have to have them in at least FINE or better. Anything VF or above is a MUST HAVE! (Extremely, extremely rare) Which is also a major, major appeal. If they are low grade, unless it is extremely old, hard to find or some kind of key, I wont buy it.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. I got a Charlton romance book (was a #1, don't remember the title) out of a bargain box. When I got it home, it had some major damage that wasn't apparent in the dark room of the comic show. I just chucked it in the garbage....and I hate throwing away comics!

I'd agree also. Charlton comics usually had problems anyway...

Hey, thanks for the section! I imagine it will be pretty dead most of the time. But, maybe every now and then, someone will post something. I might add a few of my favorites over here one day. And, if anyone has any tidbit of news, insight, speculation, etc they would like to add, I'd love to see it! Thanks Q!

Ive been meaning to add to this section and havent yet. My new position at my job has had me doing plenty of overtime (checks look nice) and when I get home, Im too pooped to do any scanning. But, maybe soon. I want to scan some of my favorite Charltons and post them here. Maybe a favorite's gallery of mine. I picked up some comics last Saturday and couldnt go without getting a Charlton or 2 (never can anymore). My collection is starting to get nice. But still have tons more to go. Not even scratching the surface yet, but when I do look through my Charltons, there are always a few covers I kind of admire for a few seconds longer than the rest. Those are the ones I would like to post scans of. So, please...dont shut down this section due to inactivity. I have plans for it... Just havent had the time.

I've been meaning to post here also, but I'm sick and not feeling well lately.
If you scan at 300dpi, crop the picture evenly and straight, reduce to 25%, sharpen... I'm willing to steal your scans and reuse them for a checklist scan. No promises, but I haven't given up entirely on a Charlton Checklist.

My Charlton collecting is pretty limited. I'm after Ditko's stuff, Emergency! and The Six Million Dollar Man.
Charlton seems notoriously tough to find in high grade, but that's half the fun.
