Thought I would share a few of my Charltons. I dont have a lot, but I have enough to be proud of them. Thought I would start out with a smattering of covers that I like for 1 reason or another. And update it when the mood hits or when I get new ones. If anyone else would like to post theirs or make comments...please do. Let me start with one of my favorites that I own. A Steve Ditko Masterpiece in my opinion.... Blue Beetle # 3

Not really a favorite, but I remember the old TV Show and I guess that is what makes me like it... Bionic Woman #1

I think anything Steve Ditko did for Charlton puts it at the top of the desirability list. He did a lot for them and in some cases, I find his work for Charlton better than a lot of his work for other publishers. Not in all cases, but certainly his Charlton work gave the company a credibility that in most titles it was lacking.

I always look at Bryne as "The artist that got away". His work with Charlton I felt was rough, but it was obvious he was a major talent for them. I dont know the story of John Bryne at Charlton, but I think it would be nice if someone told it. Im sure Charlton couldnt pay him the money that Marvel could, plus the character recognition with Marvel probably would make anyone star-struck. But I always felt like it was a shame that Bryne didnt have a ton of work for Charlton. I also put his works as high priority.

Fightin Army, Marines, etc are pretty easy to find and cheap. I have quite a few of them. This is my oldest Fightin Army. Its not in the greatest shape, but being old, I kind of like it...

Well, there is nothing really special about this book but I do think its a pretty cool cover. But the #1 reason I love it is its in pretty darn great shape for an early 80s Charlton which is probably one of their peak periods of poor book quality.

Another Ditko...Haunted #2. I always felt like he was at his most unique when he did his freaky, quirky psychodelic stuff...

Even though Im not much on Funny Animal characters and books, I do have my share of them and can appreciate them. I actually bought this one off of ebay and I think what appealed to me most was that it had a lot of Hanna-Barbera characters on the cover, which for me, ended up making it kinda cool. Also, its in pretty good shape too! Always a plus with Charltons.

Outer Space #1...Just an old Charlton and a #1. Felt I couldnt go wrong there. Cover aint bad. Shape aint bad. I had to take it home.

About the time this comic came out, I was a little kid watching the show on TV. So, I guess this comic is nostalgic to me. Does anyone besides me remember what guest star Schleprock used to say as his catch-phrase on this show? (he's not pictured btw).

Not much of a Phantom fan, but when I seen this cover, I thought it was pretty cool. Had kind of a Batman/Captain America feel to it. So, I took it home.

This might be one of my all time favorite Charltons that I own. I love pretty much everything about this book. Its a Ditko, I love this cover (in fact, this series is one of my favorites). The interior is sweet. Top-Notch Ditko! I even love the logo. And, its in above average Charlton shape. Yeah, I love this one... Im waiting for the collecting world to wake up one day and love these too!

The man, the Myth, the Legend.... Yang #1

My 1st exposure to Charlton comics was probably through Yang. I remember being a little kid and my parents bought us these 3 packs of comics as gifts for X-Mas and I remember one of those books was a Modern Reprint (which I think is a quest to go after). So I think it was Yang that got me going on Charltons. I now have nearly all of them, which isnt saying much. But, I find it to be an underloved title from the Charlton library.

Anytime I see a 75 cent Charlton, I take note. Because I know it is one of the last. And I have always wonder...just what is the last Charlton? If I knew, I think I would go after it bigtime. Anybody know? Another thing is, I think Charlton made 1 last push to hang on. This comic that I have, is a step up in quality for Charlton. The early to mid 80s have so many bad comics. And yes, this is a funny book, but its well done. But also, the paper quality took a major step up too. Though not quite as high as Marvel and DC standards, the newsprint in this book is majorly better than their jagged edge, born to be yellow paper from earlier in the decade. But, alas, it was too little too late.

Nice scans! I never thought of trying to get #1's until right now. That would be an easy way to start. A small goal that you could expand upon later.

It would be a fitting exit if they reprinted it as a goodbye. It would make a lot of sense. Defiant1

Im going to stop here for the time being. I have tons more I could do, but it takes awhile to do all of this and thats not a bad cross reference of books in my opinion.
Q, Im sorry I didnt dig through my scanner settings and get them the way you asked. My software isnt too friendly with it and I'll admit, I didnt search too terribly hard either. I just scanned, uploaded and hope they are usable.
Charltons to me deserve a lot of the flack they have taken over the years. The are so unloved that being me, I began to find appeal in that. Anytime I visit a comic store or a dealer at a convention, its rare that I find any with a decent collection. Having a smattering of them is about the most I ever see.
Will these be unloved and unwanted forever? Were they truly that bad? In most cases yes. But, I think I have found an appreciation in them. Once I had a sizeable collection, I just admired it more and more. Now its a passion to have one of the best collections around. Well, I dont work on it all the time. But, its rare I can leave a store anymore without picking some up.
Im hoping, maybe beyond hope...that the collecting society suddenly realizes how difficult and rare high grade copies are to come by. Even mid graders are not that easy. And maybe one day...in my dream world....they suddenly jump in value and mid to high grade gems fetch good money.
If so, I want to say...I was ahead of that game. Because truly any high grade book I find, I must have. Thus, is the joy of the search. Its comic collecting joy at its finest for me. Underloved and hard to find in good shape. A side quest to my good stuff. But perhaps my favorite side quest. Please forgive me for being silly about them.
Please post some of your Charltons if you got em! I love seeing the ones I dont have.
In the meantime. I'll keep looking.

In the meantime. I'll keep looking. I will shrink them and they will be useable. i've already saved them all It is time consuming. It gives you an idea how much work it takes getting a web site up and going. There are reasons for the settings. 300dpi is print quality. I like for images to be printable and have the same quality you see on the screen or in a magazine. Scanning large and reducing 25% gives you the sharpest image with the best clarity. If you have 4 red pixels on a grid and reduce them 25%, it can shrink them to one pixel without having to average a color or change it. If you reduce to any other percentage it has to round virtually every pixel and thats when clarity starts getting lost. I also prefer tightly cropped scans but I can do that. You did the hardest part and also the parts I will not be able to do. I don't have many Charlton's left. I think you've seen this one... Defiant1

I currently have five Charlton romance comics in my books that aren't in storage, I'll try to scan them in the next couple days if anyone is interested in seeing some "girl comics"!

Yeah. Go ahead. I'm going to save them all, but I'm running crippled.
Bought two 360GB hard drives for $218 which I'll migrate my data to. . Tried some cheap recovery software. It was a rip off. It's just a GUI shell for standard MSDOS. Trying to find something that can read the MFT file structure on the hard drive and restore or copy the data.

Okay... the XP repair console didn't help. The cheapo Acronis software I bought to test was just a shell for Windows apps. it was useless also. It looks like I may need to buy the trialware I downloaded. I was hoping to NOT buy something online. What're the odds of the first application I downloaded being the only one with a shot of working. Symantec probably has something that will recover my data, I just can't tell from their poorly worded solicitations.

Let me see if I can get a few in tonight. The next few books I picked up at Comic Kings half priced on Saturday. All of his back issues were half off and I knew he had some Charltons I had been wanting but hadnt yet bought. So, I got them on Saturday. The 1st is Fightin Marines #74. Other than some foxing problems, it pretty solid. I have quite a few of this series and this would qualify as my oldest one so far. But the more I have, the more I seem to like.

I have been keeping my eye on this one for awhile, but I didnt want to pay full price ($9) for it. But, at $4.50....I thought it was worth it to pick up a solid shaped #1 from the Silver Age.

Space Adventures is quickly becoming one of my favorite series, but I must say, this may be my least favorite cover of the ones I own. Plus, its not in the greatest shape, but its passable. My absolute favorite detail about the book is that it is a #2
