I seem to recall them being flat on cardboard and sealed in plastic. Stuff like this was highly treasured back then so I bet quite a few went to frames immediately.

I found this one with a black frame and the print on a blue background. I wondered if this was how Defiant shipped the prints out (framed) since blue & black are the Defiant logo colors:

I don't remember. I've only seen one of these and I was outside on a sidewalk as a new comic shipment was being brought into the store. I could not afford it at the time and didn't pay a lot of attention to it..... other than to try and get an idea of what Defiant would ultimately be.

This poster is definitely from one of the early issues of "Hero Illustrated" (#3): Here's the other side of the poster which features an "interview" with 2 of the Plasm characters (Lorca & Sueraceen):

Cool, so they were originally framed! (182/1000) That's not how I remember it, but it's been a long time. Perhaps they came from the same source and the seller framed them!? If I find the solicutation in Previews, I'll see what it says. That is if I have it. Defiant1

If anyone's interested in getting this poster, they're available for less than a buck on ebay now. It comes bound in the center of "Hero Illustrated #3" (Cyberforce cover) and there's a perforattion at the bottom of the poster to safely remove it from the magazine without ripping it. There are some cool "Plasm ads & artwork" throughout the book too. It's kinda cool reading this magazine again for all the "hot" titles that were out in 1993! This magazine was stuffed with more coverage than what "Wizard" provides today.

i have this one framed but to be honest i dont know anything about it. can you tell me a little background? This item was the first thing Defiant ever solicited in Previews if I recall correctly. It was a signed & numbered print. I think it was in the neighborhood of $75 new, but it's been so long I can't remember. I only saw a couple of these when it first came out. The character is Mongrel. Some people think that it's Maserov from "Dogs of War" & "Warriors of Plasm". Todd Luck had some interesting speculation. If you dig on the board you'll find his comments here somewhere. Q Did The Mongrel ever appear in a comic?

Not under that name. Shooter in Dogs of War may have been Mongrel, but we don't know.

I was reading Plasm #2 last night and in the editorial/column page by Deborah Purcell, it was mentioned at the bottom that "Mongrel" was slated to get a title along with "Glory" and "Dogs of War."
(This was in the September '93 Plasm #2 issue though.)

I had most of the editorials transcribed, but you are commenting on an early one. I hadn't finish sorting through Plasm yet... Here is Deborah's from.... November 1993 Source: Dark Dominion #2 It's 6:00 A.M on Monday, October 4th, and I'm looking out my office window at the dark Manhattan sky. Only one lit window-- much like that of our DEFIANT fortress--looms eeirily in my view, and suddenly I experience the great, lonely breadth of New York at night. Yet, in office buildings all over the city, there doubtless are pockets of activity much like that right here--people toiling together hard to meet a critical deadline, ravaged by exhaustion, but still putting heart and soul into the job that has to get done. There were five of us here through the long hours just past--Joe James, Robert LaQuinta, George Roberts, Tim Perkins, and myself--and our mission was to finish painting, pasting up, and proofreading, DARK DOMINION #1. Our youngest staff member, Zach Lynch, arrived at 5:30 A.M to take the completed book and sprint with it to an international flight, delivering it to the printer on time. Thursday, October 21st. 3:00 A.M...Once again, a DEFIANT penciler, inker, letterer, two colorist, a paste-up artist, and an editor continued to ply the comic book trade into the hours before dawn. Grey was here putting on the finishing touches on THE GOOD GUYS #1, as was the title's inker, Charles Yoakum. Tim Perkins painted pages of this issue, DARK DOMINION #2, while Oclair Silverio completed the cover of WARRIORS OF PLASM #5. George Roberts was lettering PLASM #4, while Robert LaQuinta then took in hand to paste up. I wonder if you have any idea how hard these guys work...some of them thousands of kilometers from home...other only the matter of a few miles, though it may as well be thousands, considering how infrequently they have an hour to themselves. Before he began freelancing for us (painting the WARRIORS OF PLASM Graphic Novel, "Home for the Holidays"), Oclair, who is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, had never been on a plane. He speaks a mere several words of English, is living alone in a modest hotel, and had to bid good-bye to his wife and 18-month-old son for more than a month. Likewise, Tim from Blackburn, England, who is here to color DARK DOMINION, had never before been to the States, and has not seen his wife, 10-year-old daughter, and 6 1/2-year-old son for the same length of time. And Charles, from Sacramento, California dropped everything on the West Coast for an indefinite for the good of THE GOOD GUYS. What a bunch of troopers. How trite it sounds to say it, but they're good men all...dedicated and true. I applaud them sincerely, and hope that you will think of them with as much respect, affection, and gratefulness as I do...day after day, night after night. Defiant1

Found this pic in the editorial/column section while re-reading Plasm #6 and it shows Jim Shooter holding a one-of-a-kind award statue of Plasm's "Lorca!" Pretty cool looking statue!

Anyone seen this Dark Dominion sheet before? At first I thought this was the uncut Dark Dominion card litho without the frame. (another tough item to find..) This one is magazine sized with a thick cardstock and has a glossy/laminated look to the page. Might be a sort of card promo...

Yes, I have one. I believe it was given away at a Capital City seminar in 1993. I also have the framed one you mentioned. I bought it cheap on ebay many years ago. I remember when they first were offered in a small catalog Defiant came out with. As I recall, everything offered in that catalog was VERY pricey.

I was reading Plasm #2 last night and in the editorial/column page by Deborah Purcell, it was mentioned at the bottom that "Mongrel" was slated to get a title along with "Glory" and "Dogs of War." (This was in the September '93 Plasm #2 issue though.) I ran into Georges Jeanty at a shop I don't visit very frequently. I didn't know that was where he shopped, so it shocked me a bit to see him. I wasn't going to bug him, but I thought he might know the answer to the Mongrel question. Unfortunately, he barely remembers anything about those days. He was even having a lapse of memory regarding Art Holcomb's name and that's whose script he worked from. He forgot that J.G. Jones had started at DEFIANT also. He says I'm the only person who ever mentions DEFIANT to him. I admitted that sometimes I'm ashamed that I know as much as I do. He remembers meeting Jim at a convention in Florida and they were looking for a Dark Dominion artists. He said he didn't know what Jim saw in him. He said he remembered Jim flying him to New York and he remembered sitting in Jim's office. He said the storytelling experience that he got at DEFIANT was invaluable. He said it was tough working from the 9 panel grid, but it taught him how to tell a story. He said that if he was teaching young artists today, that he'd use the same method. He said the students probably wouldn't like it, but that it teaches you to tell the story with art. He said Dogs of War was always supposed to be a limited series, but at the end, they weren't going to actually show you what happened to him. I tried to jog his memory and ask if Mazerov was going to become Mongrel. He simply could not remember. His initial impression upon thinking back was that Mazerov was going to be over after issue #8. He said he was always amazed that Lapham wasn't working for Marvel or DC. He said he was really impressed with Lapham's work back then. I told him I wasn't buying many new comics. I told him I wasn't fond of computer coloring. I brought up Gowaltrip's rant about static poses and heroes flying in Blue Angel configurations. We discussed the fact that some artists are looking for resale value of their art after it's done. All in all, we talked for about 45 minutes to an hour unless I lost track and it was longer. Last but not least, he says he thinks he does have a folder of Defiant related stuff. Possibly some ad art or editorial page stuff. I told him that I did have his business card (although misplaced ). He asked me to keep in touch. There is a possibility I may get some more stuff to show you guys... Defiant1
